United Arrows Launches UACG to Connect Fashion with Anime Culture

United Arrows, led by CEO Yoshinori Matsuzaki, is starting an exciting new project called UACG through its brand, Beauty & Youth United Arrows (BY). Aimed at engaging the next generation of consumers, UACG is the brainchild of MZ generation staff who are seeking to merge their love for anime, comics, and games into fashionable items that resonate across generations.

One of the highlights of the UACG initiative is the release of a collaborative T-shirt designed with renowned manga artist and illustrator Yoshishige Eguchi, set to launch on July 26. The concept behind UACG is the idea of an “anime T-shirt that doesn’t get consumed.” The goal is to create apparel that is not only a passing trend but evolves into a future vintage piece cherished for years to come.

By capturing the spirit of beloved anime while utilizing modern materials that consider environmental impact, UACG aims to provide consumers with clothing that feels like wearable art. This approach transcends mere fandom, offering items that are timeless and have inherent value.

The Background of UACG

The name UACG is an abbreviation of “United Arrows” combined with the initials of “Anime,” “Comic,” and “Game.” This term embodies the love and passion of MZ generation staff for these cultural forms. With the growing appreciation of 1990s culture and increased inbound demand, UACG is reinterpreting Japan's anime culture through fashion, striving to bridge cultural gaps and captivate future generations.

Reflecting on how anime, manga, and games have been integral to their lives since childhood, the creators of UACG wish to convey their emotions and fervor through fashion. They aspire to design items that can be appreciated as art by those unfamiliar with the works, while offering fans something they can proudly wear in public. The launch product is intentionally designed to be a lasting keepsake, crafted with deep respect for the source material, including an engaging packaging concept.

Launch Products

The first collection features exclusive T-shirts inspired by iconic 1990s anime, developed in collaboration with Yoshishige Eguchi. The second phase will introduce items themed around the popular comic “Dragon Head.”

UACG is committed to expressing the brand's universe and community through striking visual representations. Social media channels will serve as platforms to share the artistic backgrounds, values embedded in the items, and highlight why UACG's mission is significant.

Details about the first T-shirt designs include:

  • - UACG HRK Z001: Rooted in 90s animation, this piece features a special illustration by Eguchi and is priced at JPY 8,800. Available in white and black, in sizes S, M, and L.
  • - UACG HRK BIKES: This design incorporates Eguchi’s latest signature on an original body. Priced at JPY 11,000, it offers a nostalgic yet contemporary appeal.
  • - UACG HRK LB PREM: A limited edition with only 99 pieces available, this T-shirt boasts an intricate inkjet print of a 90s animation artwork with a reflective print of Eguchi's signature, all wrapped in a collectible blister pack, priced at JPY 15,400.

Future Plans

UACG will not only launch products via its online store and flagship locations but also plans pop-up events at fashion-forward venues such as H Beauty & Youth. The initiative will consider hosting exhibitions that provide immersive experiences of the works that inspire each collection.

As part of its strategic mid-term management plan (FY2024 to FY2026), United Arrows focuses on expanding their customer base through initiatives like the UA MULTI strategy, making UACG a significant step towards connecting with younger generations.
