Ride Like MADD 2025
Bretz Injury Law is gearing up for the fifth annual
Ride Like MADD 2025, a benefit poker run aimed at raising awareness about impaired driving and supporting Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). This year's event will take place on
Saturday, July 26, 2025, starting at
9:30 AM and will commence at Twister City Harley-Davidson in Wichita, Kansas.
The poker run is not just about the destination; it's also a tribute to
Steven Richard Golik, a cherished husband, father, and passionate motorcyclist who tragically lost his life at the hands of a drunk driver in the summer of 2024. His daughter,
Ashley Opliger, has become a formidable advocate for stricter DUI laws in the state following her father's death, emphasizing the need for safe driving practices.
Ashley poignantly stated, "Every biker should be able to go on a ride and make it home safely. My dad did everything right that day, but someone else's reckless decisions stole his life." In her quest for change, she highlights that simple choices—like opting for an Uber—can save lives. The upcoming ride aims to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
The
64-mile route for this year's event symbolizes one mile for each year of Steven's life, winding through significant locations in south-central Kansas. Stops along the way will include key sites such as WSU Tech/NCAT and Textron Aviation, where Steven dedicated 36.5 years of service. The journey will culminate back at Twister City Harley-Davidson, where participants can share their experiences and honor Steven's memory.
