Study Reveals High Willingness to Reduce Redelivery Among Apartment Residents

Overview

A recent study conducted by Linafu Co., Ltd., based in Bunkyo, Tokyo, revolved around the pressing issue of package redelivery among apartment residents. Notably, with the Japanese government's initiative to designate April as "Redelivery Reduction Public Relations Month," insights were gathered from nationwide apartment residents about their perceptions and experiences concerning redelivery and package drop-off services.

Survey Insights

Purpose of the Survey

The study aimed to reveal the complex dynamics surrounding redelivery issues, particularly in secure, auto-lock apartments, where physical constraints often hinder the delivery process. The Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT) intends to address the nation’s logistics approach by advocating for improved delivery practices and encouraging residential adaptation to various receiving methods. The Ministry emphasizes the importance of revising traditional business practices and promoting consumer behavioral change to optimize logistics across the board.

During the study, it became evident that mechanical restraints, like auto-lock systems, compounded by full delivery boxes, particularly result in frequent redeliveries. This survey not only identified these predominant inconveniences but also moved toward proposing viable solutions for establishing sustainable logistics strategies.

Key Findings

The study revealed that approximately 90% of residents in auto-lock apartments are eager to assist in reducing redelivery challenges. This strong desire to contribute underscores a broader societal awareness of the burdens that redelivery places on delivery professionals and the environment.

When asked about barriers to reducing redelivery, residents pointed directly to their auto-lock systems, stating that these features often prevent package drop-offs and complicate delivery times, resulting in missed connections. Feedback also indicated concerns about narrow delivery windows constricting possible delivery times.

Interestingly, about 80% of auto-lock apartment residents expressed interest in utilizing doorstep drop-off services, indicating an underlying demand for such options that surpasses that of non-auto-lock residents.

Furthermore, over half of the respondents claimed they would increase their online shopping frequency if package drop-offs became available in their residential areas. Many anticipated greater usage of services for bulky items, such as beverages and household essentials, along with regular subscriptions for grocery items and meal kits.

Closing Thoughts

The investigation highlighted a widespread consciousness regarding redelivery's implications for drivers and the environment among apartment residents. However, it simultaneously illuminated persistent challenges stemming from the auto-lock systems intrinsic to many residential buildings. While residents show readiness for convenient drop-off arrangements, existing security features currently limit their access to these services.

To bridge this gap, there’s a pressing need for enhancements to the environment around apartment features, ensuring that security can be maintained without compromising the efficiency or convenience of package drop-off systems.

Linafu is dedicated to integrating technology to address these challenges, ultimately aiming to redefine real estate capabilities by developing and offering services that harmonize safety with convenience. They continue to aspire toward creating "more comfortable living spaces" while contributing to broader societal solutions for existing logistics problems.
