CovationBio Set to Launch Groundbreaking Bio-Based Athletic Insole at NW Materials Show

CovationBio to Unveil the First Non-Food Bio-Based Athletic Insole

Covation Biomaterials LLC, known as CovationBio, is making headlines with the launch of its latest product at the NW Materials Show, taking place in Portland, Oregon. This event marks a significant milestone as CovationBio has successfully produced its first series of commercial batches of Xatryx® bioPTMEG, a non-food bio-based material that is set to revolutionize the footwear industry. Alongside this achievement, CovationBio, in partnership with the globally recognized insole brand INSITE®, will introduce the first athletic insole made from this innovative material, showcasing the potential of bio-based alternatives in sportswear.

Transition to Sustainable Manufacturing

After marking the mechanical completion of their state-of-the-art 50,000 ton commercial plant for the C4 platform technology earlier this year, CovationBio rapidly progressed to successful production within a short span of four months. The Qidong plant officially commenced production of Xatryx.T bioTHF and Xatryx® bioPTMEG in August 2026, delivering on-spec materials that meet strict industry standards. The three molecular weight grades produced—2000, 1800, and 1000—reflect the high quality and reliability of CovationBio’s proprietary technology.

Mr. You Feifeng, the Chairman of CovationBio, expressed his pride in the swift transition from equipment commissioning to the production of commercial batches, demonstrating the efficiency and stability of their manufacturing processes. CovationBio is actively working with customers to collect valuable feedback for ongoing improvement and application insights, ensuring the products meet market expectations.

A Milestone for Sustainable Footwear

The implications of Xatryx® bioPTMEG as a sustainable alternative to fossil-based materials are profound. This innovative compound not only promises superior performance in applications such as spandex and polyurethanes but also offers significant reductions in dependency on non-renewable resources, aligning with global sustainability goals.

Another key aspect of CovationBio’s product offering is its environmental advantage. It boasts lower greenhouse gas emissions during production compared to traditional fossil-based counterparts and utilizes annually renewable biomass. This is achieved through leveraging agricultural by-products, thus avoiding conflicts with food supply, and providing a drop-in solution that integrates easily with existing manufacturing processes.

Collaborating for Innovation

Simultaneously, CovationBio is teaming up with INSITE® to pioneer advancements in athletic footwear technology. During the NW Materials Show, both companies will highlight how the first partially non-food bio-based athletic insole was developed using Xatryx® bioPTMEG as a core component. INSITE® brings their extensive expertise in footwear biomechanics and design, ensuring that the new insole not only meets performance standards but sets a new benchmark for sustainability in the industry.

Dr. Zhao Mosha, the Global Marketing Director for CovationBio’s C4 Platform, indicated the leap from raw materials to market-ready products was impressively executed within weeks, underscoring the efficiency of their collaboration. The focus now shifts towards expanding the use of Xatryx® across various applications, fostering sustainable transformations within the material industry.

The Significance of the NW Materials Show

The NW Materials Show serves as a crucial exhibition within the global footwear and functional fabrics sectors, delivering insights into innovative material solutions. CovationBio's participation aims to shed light on how Xatryx® products can enhance the supply chain in footwear production and advance integration strategies for sustainable development.

With the increasing demand for environmentally friendly alternatives, CovationBio is poised to make a remarkable impact, contributing to the movement towards sustainability while fulfilling the needs of industries reliant on high-performance materials.
