Introduction
In an exciting development for education in Japan, the SAMURAI Foundation, based in Minato-ku, Tokyo, is set to launch the first-ever municipal partnership club aimed at cultivating entrepreneurship in elementary school children. Situated in Taketoyo Town, Aichi Prefecture, the SAMURAI Entrepreneurship Club will begin its programs on July 18, 2026. This initiative marks a significant step forward in integrating entrepreneurship education with local government support, aiming to benefit 5th and 6th-grade students.
Club Overview
The pilot club will be hosted at Taketoyo Town Central Community Center, where ten eager students will be able to participate in a series of classes focused on entrepreneurship. Sessions are scheduled to be held every Saturday from 10 AM to 12 PM, with an expected total of 12 to 14 meetings during the 2026 fiscal year. Notably, participation will be completely free of charge, with all materials and instruction provided without any funding from the government, relying solely on donations to the SAMURAI Foundation.
Why Taketoyo Town?
Taketoyo Town, located in the heart of Aichi Prefecture on the Chita Peninsula, is renowned for its industrial port, as well as its rich cultural heritage in miso and tamari production. The town boasts a warm climate and a growing population of approximately 43,000. The SAMURAI Foundation emphasizes creating a supportive ecosystem that connects local educators, parents, and businesses to foster children's ventures. The involvement of the town's mayor, Yuushi Toba, who has entrepreneurial experience himself, demonstrates a shared commitment to nurturing the next generation of innovators. The goal is for the town to serve as a model for collaboration that can be replicated across Japan.
Mayor Toba's Vision
In a statement, Mayor Yuushi Toba expressed excitement for being able to start the first SAMURAI Entrepreneurship Club in partnership with the municipal government. Drawing from his personal experience of launching two startup companies, he believes in the boundless potential this club offers to children. "It's not about whether you can or cannot, but whether you take action or not," he stated. Toba wishes to inspire young minds to challenge themselves and aims to bolster Taketoyo’s reputation as a breeding ground for promising entrepreneurs and innovative leaders.
