A New Chapter for Central Line Beer Works
Central Line Beer Works, the first craft brewery operated by JR Central Line Community Design, is set to launch their own brew,
'Poppoya Ale,' on January 29, 2026. This groundbreaking product utilizes hops cultivated by local employees working at the Central and Nambu Line stations, highlighting the vibrant community engaged in this initiative.
The brewery, located in Koganei City, aims to enhance the region's lifestyle while fostering a local craft beer culture. The company's mission is to establish a community hub where people can connect over quality brews while supporting local agriculture.
About Poppoya Ale
Previously, 'Poppoya Ale' was brewed in collaboration with 26K Brewery before the establishment of Central Line Beer Works. Now, for the first time, the brewery's team of former station staff have taken on the brewing process themselves, creating a pale ale that offers a blend of fruity hop aromas followed by a smooth aftertaste. The beer features an
ABV of 5.0% and an
IBU of 31, presenting a unique depth of flavor that's hard to resist.
The ingredients include barley malt sourced from England and Germany, hops, and carbonation, giving it a distinct profile synonymous with craft beers.

Growing Together with the Community
The journey of 'Poppoya Ale' started back in March 2021 when the company began hop cultivation at JR Musashisakai Station. What began as a small endeavor has blossomed into a comprehensive project, expanding cultivation to 15 locations, including train stations and vehicle centers—showcasing the dedication of local employees in caring for their hop plants.
Our commitment goes beyond brewing; we aim to create community interactions through hop cultivation and beer events. Every sip of 'Poppoya Ale' supports local efforts, weaving a fabric of strong community ties.
The
Central Line Hop Project is more than a beer initiative; it's a community-building exercise that turns stations from transit hubs into vibrant spaces for interaction and belonging.
Through this cyclical journey from hop growth, to harvest, to brewing, and finally enjoying the beer, we strengthen the richness of life in our region.
