Sunset World Group's Sea Turtle Protection Program Achieves Impressive Results in 2024

Sunset World Group's Sea Turtle Protection Efforts

In the picturesque landscapes of the Mexican Caribbean, the sea turtle nesting season spans from May to November, attracting many nesting turtles to the shores of Sunset Royal Beach Resort. For over a decade, Sunset World Group has been committed to the cause, participating in the Sea Turtle Protection Program since 2009. This initiative underscores the company’s dedication to preserving biodiversity and protecting vulnerable species in the region.

A Lifeline for Endangered Species

The program, which is vital for the survival of endangered sea turtles, has trained security staff at the Sunset Royal to handle all aspects of turtle nesting. This includes welcoming female turtles, safeguarding their nests, and caring for hatchlings until they can safely return to the ocean. Since its inception, the program has seen remarkable success, recovering 161,374 eggs and releasing 125,005 hatchlings over a span of 15 years.

In the most recent season of 2024, the team reported significant achievements starting from June 15 when a female White turtle laid 131 eggs. From these, 75 hatchlings successfully emerged. By October 10, 21 nests containing 2,030 eggs had been protected, resulting in the release of 1,810 baby turtles.

Commitment to Conservation

Enrique Caldas, the Corporate Security Manager at Sunset World Group, emphasized the importance of the Sea Turtle Protection Program, noting that these turtles are classified as endangered under national legislation. Caldas pointed out that human activity poses the greatest threat to these species, often exploiting their resources and causing pollution in their habitats. Marine plastics, which turtles mistake for food, are a significant issue affecting their survival.

To combat these challenges, Sunset World Group has implemented strict measures to protect these vulnerable species, contributing to the ongoing conservation debate in the region.

A Family-Friendly Destination

Nestled along the stunning white sands of Cancún’s coastline, Sunset Royal not only stands out for its conservation efforts but also for offering delightful vacation experiences. With its location providing easy access to a variety of entertainment options, including nightclubs, restaurants, and shopping, it is an ideal destination for families. The all-inclusive plan allows guests to enjoy international cuisine and premium beverages across Sunset Royal and Sunset Marina resorts.

Additionally, Sunset World Group has integrated its hospitality services with environmental responsibility, evidenced by the Energy Efficiency Program implemented across its six hotels in Cancún and Riviera Maya. By harnessing renewable energy from wind farms and geothermal sources, the group has successfully reduced its carbon footprint, aligning its business practices with sustainable development goals.

A Legacy of Commitment

Founded by pioneers of Cancún, Sunset World Group has cultivated a reputation for excellence in the hospitality industry over its 30-plus years of operation. With a genuine passion for environmental conservation, the group ensures that every guest's experience is not just enjoyable but also consciously contributes to preserving the beautiful surroundings they enjoy.

As the Sea Turtle Protection Program progresses, Sunset World Group’s achievements highlight the critical role that local businesses can play in environmental conservation. With continued dedication to preserving these magnificent creatures, they demonstrate a model of responsibility that blends luxury with care for our planet.

In conclusion, the Sea Turtle Protection Program is more than just a conservation effort; it is a testament to what can be achieved when tourism and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. Sunset World Group stands as a beacon of hope for sea turtles and for the tourism industry as a whole.
