The Gussalli Beretta Brothers Honored with Dr. Vito Genco Shooting Ambassador Award
In an illustrious ceremony held at the IWA OutdoorClassics event in Nuremberg, Germany, the World Forum on Shooting Activities (WFSA) awarded the prestigious Dr. Vito Genco Shooting Ambassador Award to brothers Franco and Pietro Gussalli Beretta. Franco Gussalli Beretta accepted the award on behalf of both brothers, marking a significant recognition in the shooting sports community.
Tony Bernardo, the president of the WFSA, expressed deep satisfaction in presenting such a vital award to individuals who epitomize the organization's mission. He stated, "It is a tremendous honor to bestow our highest accolade on leaders who embody the essence of what our organization promotes: excellence in hunting, competitive shooting, and the responsible ownership of firearms by civilians." This honor is particularly significant as it coincides with the 500th anniversary of Beretta, a brand synonymous with quality in the firearm industry.
The Dr. Vito Genco Shooting Ambassador Award is a symbol of exceptional contributions to hunting and sport shooting globally. Previous recipients include renowned Olympic athletes, celebrated authors, and prominent figures, including the late Antonin Scalia, a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.
Franco Gussalli Beretta reflected on the honor, stating, “We are deeply grateful to receive this award from the WFSA, an organization advocating for scientific research, tradition, values, and innovation within the global shooting community.” Franco serves as the president and CEO of Fabbrica d'Armi Pietro Beretta, while his brother Pietro is the president and CEO of Beretta Holding.
Founded in 1526, the Fabbrica d'Armi Pietro Beretta holds a remarkable legacy and proudly celebrates its 500th anniversary this year. This milestone not only highlights the company's enduring impact on the firearm industry but also emphasizes its commitment to quality and innovation.
The plenary session also commemorated the 30th anniversary of the WFSA, featuring a retrospective from past president Graham Downing. Honoree Juergen Kohlheim was recognized for his long-standing service on the executive committee, showcasing a shared dedication to improving the shooting sports realm.
Another exciting aspect of the session included discussions surrounding the shooting disciplines featured in the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, led by Alessandro Nicotra di San Giacomo, secretary general of the ISSF. Additionally, there were discussions addressing EU proposals on lead ammunition restrictions, presented by legal expert Peter Sellar from Squire Patton Boggs.
In concert with these discussions, the meeting introduced a new database tool focused on international policy presented by Charles Fowler, president of the ASMF's image committee.
