2024 NFL Season 101 Awards: Honoring Top Players and Coaches

The 2024 NFL 101 Awards: Celebrating Excellence in Football

As the 2024 NFL season concludes, the Committee of 101 has continued its proud 55-year tradition by announcing the recipients of the esteemed 101 Awards, honoring the premier players and coaches of the year. Held on NFL Network's "Good Morning Football," this celebration highlights the achievements that have defined a thrilling season.

This year's lineup of winners showcases exceptional talent across the board. Baltimore Ravens' quarterback Lamar Jackson has been named AFC Offensive Player of the Year for his outstanding performance, marking his second consecutive award in this category. His 2024 season was nothing short of spectacular, with Jackson setting multiple career highs in passing yards (4,172), passing touchdowns (41), and yards per attempt (8.8). Notably, he also demonstrated his dual-threat capability by rushing for 915 yards, solidifying his reputation as a formidable player on the field.

Meanwhile, Saquon Barkley of the Philadelphia Eagles captured the NFC Offensive Player of the Year title, becoming only the ninth player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a single season. His record-breaking performance included 2,005 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns, leading his team to an impressive 14-3 record and the NFC East championship. Barkley's remarkable display against the Los Angeles Rams, where he amassed 302 scrimmage yards, set a new team record, further cementing his legacy this season.

On the defensive side, Pat Surtain II of the Denver Broncos was honored as the AFC Defensive Player of the Year. Surtain's excellence on defense was recognized with first-team All-Pro honors for the second time in his career. He showcased his dominance by leading the league with four interceptions and contributing to his team's Wild Card playoff berth.

Receiving accolades in the NFC, Kerby Joseph of the Detroit Lions was awarded NFC Defensive Player of the Year after leading the league with nine interceptions. His crucial interceptions and formidable presence helped propel the Lions to a franchise-best 15-2 record.

Coaching honors were equally divided, with Andy Reid of the Kansas City Chiefs and Kevin O'Connell of the Minnesota Vikings being named AFC Coach of the Year and NFC Coach of the Year, respectively. Reid's leadership has guided the Chiefs to a franchise-best season, clinching their decade-long playoff streak and solidifying his legacy as one of the league's most successful coaches. O'Connell, in his third year, has shown remarkable progress, leading the Vikings to a record-setting nine-game winning streak and one of the best seasons in franchise history.

The 101 Awards, established in 1969 by NFL pioneer Lamar Hunt and Kansas City business leaders, continue to recognize the unparalleled achievements of players and coaches in the NFL since the AFL-NFL merger. Award recipients are selected through national balloting from a panel of 101 sportswriters and broadcasters dedicated to coverage of the NFL. This process underscores the transparency and respect afforded to the winners across the league.

As the NFL prepares for the playoffs, these awards not only recognize individual excellence but also celebrate the passionate spirit of football that unites fans across the nation. With the 2024 season now wrapping up, anticipation builds for the playoff performances that will determine the next champions of the NFL.
