Space Agency Launches KUMA WOOD Housing Project to Support Disaster Recovery in Wajima City

Supporting the Community Through Innovative Housing Solutions

In January 2024, the Noto Peninsula earthquake struck, causing extensive destruction, particularly in Ishikawa Prefecture. As many residents were forced into temporary living conditions, the Space Agency (Kumamoto City) recognized the urgent need for immediate housing assistance. Utilizing their unit-type homes known as "PACO," the company has embarked on a project aimed at providing swift support to those affected.

In collaboration with local communities, Space Agency has successfully completed a series of housing units, contributing significantly to recovery efforts. So far, they have delivered 40 units near Noto Satoyama Airport specifically designed for recovery workers and have plans for an additional 47 units tailored to assist Wajima City's traditional lacquer industry recovery. This includes 30 units scheduled to be handed over in September 2024 and another 17 in October.

Utilizing KUMA WOOD: A Sustainable Choice

At the heart of this initiative is KUMA WOOD, sourced from quality timber grown in the Kumamoto region. Featuring cedar and cypress, this sustainably harvested material not only promotes the circular utilization of forest resources but also revitalizes the local economy. By employing KUMA WOOD, Space Agency reinforces its commitment to sustainable housing practices while also extending assistance to remote areas in need.

The PACO Concept: Rethinking Living Spaces

PACO challenges traditional notions of housing by prioritizing personal space. Each unit covers approximately 4 tsubo (around 14 square meters), offering a minimalist lifestyle centered on essential needs. By maximizing efficiency in cost, space, and time, PACO aspires to enrich lives while embodying the values of thoughtful living.

PACO's designs integrate compactness and expandability, making them versatile for various living scenarios—from temporary emergency housing to permanent residences. Their innovative construction allows for quick setup, fostering a sense of security and stability, particularly lauded in disaster recovery contexts.

Aiming for Community Well-being

The ethos of Space Agency revolves around enhancing the quality of life through housing solutions. By focusing on products and services that contribute positively to the community, the company aims to uplift individuals and invigorate towns. As they manufacture and deliver compact, high-quality living spaces, they encourage customers to embrace a lifestyle that is both smart and enjoyable.

Space Agency's commitment to a secure and vibrant society continues to drive their initiatives, advocating for a world where everyone can thrive in a comfortable environment.
