Tomonari Hashimoto's Exhibition 'Yet, Yet Again' at PARCEL

Starting on September 12, 2026, the PARCEL art gallery located in Nihonbashi Bakurocho, Tokyo, will unveil the long-awaited solo exhibition by Tomonari Hashimoto titled 'Yet, yet again.' This marks Hashimoto's first showcase in four years since his previous exhibition at PARCEL in 2022. The exhibition will spotlight his recent works, reflecting his current artistic journey.

Tomonari Hashimoto is a renowned artist based in Shiga Prefecture, specializing in large-scale ceramic sculptures. His previous creations have often featured geometric forms such as cubes, spheres, and columns, exuding a sense of calmness and simplicity. In this latest exhibition, Hashimoto will introduce a new series of works predominantly in shades of white, moving away from the vibrant metallic glazes that have characterized his earlier pieces. This shift aims to strip away excess information, allowing viewers to engage more profoundly with the sculptures and the clay material itself.

The evolution of Hashimoto's work is a testament to his continuous exploration and the changes he undergoes throughout the creative process. Visitors to the exhibition will have the chance to witness how his artistic expression has transformed and deepened over time.

About Tomonari Hashimoto

Tomonari Hashimoto, born in 1990 in Wakayama, is an artist recognized for his work in ceramics, based in Shigaraki. He completed his Bachelor of Arts at Kyoto University of Education in 2012, followed by his Master’s degree in Crafts from Kanazawa College of Art in 2014. In 2017, he concluded his doctoral studies in the ceramics field at the same institution. Hashimoto approaches space as an installation, inviting viewers to explore geometric scenes like rectangular prisms and spheres that exceed two meters in height.

His impressive accolades include being a finalist for the LOEWE Craft Prize in 2019, the Sankei Shimbun Award at the Kyoto Art for Tomorrow exhibition in 2019, and receiving the runner-up award at the Kobe Biennale 2015 Contemporary Ceramics Competition. His works have been collected by prestigious institutions such as the Victoria and Albert Museum, Los Angeles County Museum, and Houston Museum of Fine Arts.

About PARCEL

PARCEL opened in June 2019 in a distinctive space that was once a multi-story parking garage in the heart of Nihonbashi Bakurocho, Tokyo. The gallery focuses on contemporary art and hosts diverse cultural programs while showcasing a range of domestic and international artists. In February 2022, PARCEL expanded by opening a second space called parcel located on the second floor of the Maruka Building behind PARCEL. Together, these two venues aim to deliver multifaceted messages pertinent to contemporary society while combining the characteristics of a commercial gallery with those of a project space.
