JA Solar Signs 1.2 GW Module Supply Agreement for Photovoltaic Projects in Uzbekistan

JA Solar Secures 1.2 GW Module Supply Deal for Samarkand 1 and 2 PV Projects in Uzbekistan

In a significant step for renewable energy in Central Asia, JA Solar has formalized a crucial agreement to supply photovoltaic modules for the Samarkand 1 and 2 projects in Uzbekistan. This deal, struck with Larsen Toubro (LT) — a noted engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor — aligns perfectly with Uzbekistan's goals for a greener future.

Overview of the Projects

The Samarkand 1 and 2 solar power projects will boast a combined installed capacity of 1.2 gigawatts (GW) and are set in the picturesque Samarkand region. Once operational, these facilities are projected to supply electricity to approximately 600,000 households, significantly contributing to the country’s renewable energy goals and mitigating carbon emissions by around 1.4 million tons of CO₂ annually.

By 2030, Uzbekistan aims to elevate the share of renewable energy in its electricity generation to 25%. This ambitious target demonstrates the country’s commitment to sustainable development and energy diversification.

Collaborative Efforts

The collaboration between ACWA Power, Larsen Toubro, and JA Solar underscores a shared ambition to provide cost-effective and high-performing solar assets to emerging markets. This partnership aims not only to produce clean energy but also to bolster job creation, infrastructure development, and stability in the electricity grid.

Mr. Aiqing Yang, Executive President of JA Solar, expressed pride in supporting these strategic endeavors with world-class partners. He emphasizes that their high-efficiency and reliable modules are designed to maximize energy output across various environmental conditions. This agreement demonstrates the trust that partners place in JA Solar's capabilities and technology to deliver on such expansive projects.

JA Solar is committed to closely working with international developers and EPC contractors to supply reliable photovoltaic solutions that meet the required standards for efficiency, durability, and production volumes of electricity necessary for large-scale projects. The firm is poised to facilitate sustainable growth across Central Asia and other high-potential markets.
