Discover the Global Culinary Practices through Photography
On June 27, 2026, at 14:00 JST, Kikkoman's International Food Culture Research Center will present an insightful seminar titled
"Eating and Living: Understanding Global Lifestyles through Photography." This event will occur at Kikkoman's Tokyo Headquarters KCC Hall, and it will also be streamed live on YouTube, allowing audiences from all over to partake in this culinary exploration.
Food is indispensable to our lives, and what we eat and how we consume it varies greatly across different climates, environments, cultures, and societies. The seminar will feature acclaimed photographer
Katsu Sakaguchi, who has traveled extensively worldwide, capturing the essence of daily life and its intimate connection with food. This time, the presentation will focus on rich cultural insights from Yemen and Morocco.
The session will not only unveil the wisdom and ingenuity encapsulated in diverse culinary practices but also invite attendees to reflect on how food sustains life. The event is limited to 28 in-person participants, but there is an opportunity for anyone to join via YouTube live stream after prior registration.
About the Presenter: Katsu Sakaguchi
Born in 1972 in Nara Prefecture, Katsu Sakaguchi is a talented photographer who specializes in travel and nature’s relationship with human life. After graduating from Teikyo University and the Tokyo School of Photography's second research program, he worked at an advertising photography studio before embarking on a remarkable journey across Australia, cycling a strenuous 12,000 kilometers.
Upon returning to Japan, Sakaguchi became a freelance photographer. His photographic works and writings have featured in various travel, outdoor magazines, and airline in-flight publications. He resides in Nagatoro Town, Saitama Prefecture, in a self-built home with his family. His publications include titles like
"Everyday Meals of the World," "All About Campfires," and
"Building Your Own House." Notably, he co-received the Grand Prize at the 64th Sankei Children's Publishing Culture Awards for his participation in the
"World Friends" project by Kaiseisha. He is also a member of the Japan Advertising Photographers Association.
