Shanghai Electric Unveils SUYUAN: A Game Changer in Humanoid Robotics at WAIC 2025

Shanghai Electric Unveils SUYUAN at WAIC 2025

The World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) 2025, held in Shanghai, served as the grand stage for Shanghai Electric to showcase its latest innovation: SUYUAN, the company’s first self-developed industrial humanoid robot. With a powerful combination of technology and design, SUYUAN is set to revolutionize the landscape of intelligent manufacturing.

A Leap Forward in Robotics

SUYUAN, standing at 167 cm and weighing 50 kg, offers unparalleled agility and precision in a variety of industrial applications. Featuring 38 degrees of freedom (DoF) and a processing capability of 275 TOPS (trillions of operations per second), this humanoid robot is capable of complex movements, making it ideal for various tasks ranging from logistics to assembly.

SUYUAN can carry loads weighing up to 10 kg and lift objects of about 2 kg with one arm, reaching speeds of 5 km/h – a perfect blend of speed and gentleness for intricate tasks. The integration of LiDAR technology and binocular vision enables SUYUAN to navigate autonomously, enhancing its usability in complex industrial environments.

During its pilot testing phase, SUYUAN demonstrated its capabilities by independently identifying, positioning, lifting, and transporting boxes of varying sizes, significantly improving warehouse efficiency through advanced computer vision and synchronized control systems.

Intelligent Production Takes Center Stage

The introduction of SUYUAN marks a significant milestone at WAIC 2025, reinforcing Shanghai Electric’s emphasis on a holistic value chain in industrial solutions. This event also spotlighted another of the company's advanced robotics talents, the dual-arm robot “LINGKE,” which showcased its prowess in tackling complex manufacturing challenges with its high precision and adaptive collaboration capabilities.

Unlike traditional robots that merely replace human labor, LINGKE is designed to enhance productivity by relieving workers from repetitive and physically demanding tasks, achieving a fivefold increase in operational efficiency. Utilizing closed-loop data-model-deployment technology, it optimizes workflows through data cleaning, model training, live deployment, and feedback-based adjustment, transforming from a passive executor into an active learner.

Pioneer of Smarter Automation

At WAIC 2025, a joint venture between Shanghai Electric and Johnson Electric displayed their groundbreaking humanoid robots along with critical hardware modules and system integration solutions. This collaboration aims to expand the realms of robotics by laying out dedicated partnerships, including a supply agreement for the first unit with the National and Local Robotics Innovation Center and a product cooperation memorandum with Fourier Robotics.

With 189 patent applications, including 120 granted, in the field of humanoid robotics, Shanghai Electric is making significant strides in AI-driven industrial innovations. The company's vision for the future encompasses a broader scope of smart solutions based on human-machine and machine-machine collaboration within multifunctional industrial environments.

The Future is Bright

Shanghai Electric's comprehensive research and development capabilities, which encompass key components and fully functional robots, promise to accelerate the development of a world-class artificial intelligence ecosystem. As the industry moves towards smarter automation, innovations like SUYUAN signify just the beginning.
