The Paley Center for Media Unveils Program Celebrating Jewish Life in America

The Paley Center for Media Presents 'Beyond the Headlines'

The Paley Center for Media is set to launch a new program titled 'Beyond the Headlines: Jewish Life in America Today,' a crucial event aimed at exploring the nuances and diversity of Jewish life in the United States. This initiative is part of the highly regarded PaleyImpact series, which emphasizes the media's role in fighting antisemitism. Scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, at 6:30 PM, the event will take place at The Paley Museum located at 25 West 52nd Street in New York City.

This upcoming discussion will represent the first of four planned events within the series, generously supported by influential figures in the industry, Michael Kassan, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures, and Richard Edelman, CEO of Edelman. These two leaders are committed to fostering enlightening conversations on how media can educate and promote understanding to combat antisemitism effectively. The programming seeks to create a platform where key players in business, culture, faith, and journalism come together to discuss Jewish identities and experiences in a broader context.

In an era when Jewish identity is frequently framed through a lens of crisis, this program aims to broaden the discussion by showcasing the richness and vitality of Jewish communities. Participants will delve into how storytelling and media representation can challenge preconceived notions and stereotypes, effectively opening up a dialogue about the diverse realities of Jewish life today. By emphasizing positive narratives and resilience, the event aims to reshape public perception in favor of greater understanding and empathy.

Featured Speakers

The event will feature a notable line-up of speakers. Among them are Michael Kassan and Richard Edelman, who will share their insights on the significance of media in combating stereotypes and nurturing dialogue. Rabbi Ammiel Hirsch, the Senior Rabbi of Stephen Wise Free Synagogue, will provide a religious perspective on the conversation. Finally, Bianna Golodryga, an anchor and senior global affairs analyst at CNN, will moderate the discussion, bringing her journalistic expertise to the forefront.

Maureen J. Reidy, President and CEO of The Paley Center for Media, expressed excitement about continuing this impactful series, highlighting it as a vital opportunity to celebrate the vibrancy of Jewish life today. She noted, "By exploring the powerful role media can play in fostering understanding and combating antisemitism, this program reflects Paley's ongoing commitment to bringing people together through meaningful dialogue."

Michael Kassan added, "The stories we tell—and the conversations we create around them—have the power to shape perspectives and bring people together. At a time when Jewish life is too often viewed through the lens of adversity, it is essential to spotlight the richness, diversity, and vitality of the Jewish experience."

Additionally, Richard Edelman emphasized the media's ability to foster trust and understanding, stating, "Media plays a profound role in shaping public understanding and building trust. This series aims to provide a crucial forum for discussions that challenge stereotypes, broaden perspectives, and ultimately help combat antisemitism."

Launched in 2020, the Paley Center's initiative on media's role in combating antisemitism strives to dismantle stereotypes, educate audiences, and bring people together through candid conversations featuring industry leaders. This event will take place during The Paley Museum's milestone 50th anniversary, providing an additional layer of significance to the proceedings. The museum has recently undergone renovations and continues to operate as a dynamic cultural hub, hosting various programs that include World Cup Watch Parties and PaleyFest NY.

Tickets for the 'Beyond the Headlines' event are available now for Paley Members, with sales for the general public commencing on July 11 at noon ET.
