The event will host four talks during its duration:
1. The Definition of Art and Its Ambiguities
Date: September 10 (Wed) 13:30 – 15:00
Description: This session will explore the discrepancies between the general term “art” and its specific implications within the art industry. Led by Maya Nagoma, the Editor-in-Chief of ARTnews Japan, this talk will feature Yumiko Chiba, Director of the contemporary art gallery Yumiko Chiba Associates.
2. The Mechanisms of Value in Art
Date: September 10 (Wed) 15:30 – 17:00
Description: What constitutes “good art”? Delving into the value of art, this session will connect societal developments and art history, aided by Kohei Yamamoto, a cultural researcher and associate professor.
3. Why Do People Buy Art?
Date: September 12 (Wed) 13:30 – 15:00
Description: Explore the criteria and channels that art collectors use when purchasing. Legal expert and art collector, Junya Komatsu, will discuss the growing interest in art investment alongside practitioner Hirohiko Azuma.
4. The Efficacy of Art in Practice
Date: September 12 (Wed) 15:30 – 17:00
Description: How can art be effectively utilized in business and community planning? What are the challenges involved? Esteemed guests including Shinsuke Kato of Avex Creator Agency will guide this conversation.
Exhibition Details
In addition to talks, an exhibition will showcase 20 to 25 works that explore the relationship between social sciences, history of thoughts, and art. Featured artists include:
