Natural Cycles Introduces Revolutionary Sleep Insights for Women's Health

Natural Cycles Introduces Innovative Sleep Insights

Natural Cycles, the pioneering company known for launching the first FDA-cleared birth control app, has recently unveiled a new feature called Sleep Insights, which is embedded within the Natural Cycles app. This feature is designed specifically to connect the vital aspects of sleep and hormonal cycle insights, allowing women to understand how their menstrual cycle can affect their rest and recovery.

As the discussion regarding sleep patterns gains more traction, it is noteworthy that many existing platforms tend to overlook the impact of hormonal fluctuations on women's sleep. Sleep Insights aims to bridge this gap in the understanding of women's health by offering tools that are personalized and specifically tailored to their unique needs.

Dr. Magda Armbruster, the VP of Product at Natural Cycles, emphasized the user feedback they receive, stating that many women have observed variations in their sleep correlating with their menstrual cycles. However, there lacks an adequate explanation within many sleep monitoring systems. She remarked, "Since Natural Cycles already aids users in understanding their hormonal patterns and fertility status, we are in a unique position to correlate sleep changes with the menstrual cycle, furnishing insights that are more personal and actionable."

Research is now surfacing that indicates hormonal shifts throughout the menstrual cycle can significantly influence various sleep-related factors, including sleep quality and perceived restfulness. Notably, it has also been shown that women's subjective assessment of sleep does not always align with objective sleep data, particularly prevalent during the premenstrual period. By merging self-reported experiences with data derived from wearables, Sleep Insights aims to provide a more individualized perspective on sleep that aligns with each user's unique cycle.

Features of Sleep Insights

Sleep Insights encompasses several features designed to enhance the user experience:

  • - Morning Check-In: Each day, users can evaluate their sleep quality by reporting whether they had a poor, okay, or good night’s sleep and noting any disturbances they experienced. This feedback aids in providing context to their nighttime sleep data and contributes to the personalized insights delivered through the app.

  • - Daily Insights: After the morning check-in, users can access essential sleep metrics such as duration, efficiency, and timing, which is displayed alongside their current fertility status. The app then generates personalized messages corresponding to each phase of their cycle, further contextualizing nightly sleep patterns.

  • - Cycle-Aware Sleep Trends: Over time, users can analyze shifts in their sleep quality throughout different phases of their menstrual cycle, helping them identify personal patterns and become more attuned to their body's rhythms. For example, some may experience increased restlessness before their menstrual period, while others might notice improved sleep quality during different cycle stages.

Before this, many women were tasked with monitoring sleep, fertility, and menstrual patterns across multiple applications. Sleep Insights simplifies this by consolidating all relevant signals into a single platform, enabling women to comprehend better the dynamic changes in their bodies as the month progresses.

Sleep Insights will soon become accessible for users already tracking their sleep using the NC° Band or Oura Ring, with plans to broaden its availability to include users synced with Garmin and Apple Watch shortly after the rollout.

Earlier this year, the NC° Band was introduced as the first wearable technology designed by Natural Cycles. Beyond tracking fertility, its role is expanded with the introduction of Sleep Insights, supporting a more comprehensive vision of personalized, cycle-aware health insights.

As part of their ongoing commitment to women's health research, which includes recently publishing their 30th peer-reviewed scientific study, Natural Cycles has plans for further investigation into the correlation between sleep, physiological processes, and female reproductive hormones.
