Well Aware Celebrates 15 Years of Impact
On December 7, 2024, Well Aware hosted its reimagined Gift of Water Gala in Austin, Texas, marking a significant milestone: 15 years of impactful work in enhancing global water accessibility. The event showcased the organization's ambitious three-year transformation plan aimed at scaling its operations, ultimately establishing itself as a leader in the mission for global water access.
This year's gala was infused with vibrant Kenyan-inspired elements to deeply connect with the organization's core mission of providing clean water solutions to communities in East Africa. With an ambitious goal of raising sufficient funds to provide permanent access to clean water for 20,000 individuals in East Africa, the event emphasized the effectiveness of their operational model — demonstrating that a donation of just $20 can provide one person with clean water for life.
A hallmark of the evening was the recognition of two distinguished leaders in the field of water security who have made significant contributions to the organization and its mission:
1.
Chris Long: The Global Impact Award was awarded to Chris Long, a two-time Super Bowl champion and 2018 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year. Long has profoundly impacted the water crisis through his Chris Long Foundation's Waterboys initiative. This initiative has successfully funded over 135 solar-powered deep borehole wells in East Africa and implemented 39 clean water projects across the United States, collectively reaching approximately 570,000 people. Since partnering with Well Aware in 2023, Waterboys has facilitated clean water access for over 17,000 individuals.
2.
Marsh Lavenue, PhD: The Ambassador of the Year Award celebrated Dr. Marsh Lavenue, the CEO and Chairman of the Board at INTERA. His exceptional leadership has not only helped INTERA grow but also significantly affected philanthropic initiatives, particularly regarding water accessibility.Over the past 15 years, INTERA has consistently supported Well Aware by implementing innovative geophysical survey methods, enhancing well drilling operations in Kenya, and creating the Ron Lantz Stewardship Award, which bolsters the technical capabilities and cost-effectiveness of Well Aware's water projects.
Sarah Evans, the founder of Well Aware, addressed the gala attendees, expressing deep gratitude for the passionate partners standing alongside the organization in its mission. Evans stated, “This gala celebrates not just our journey so far, but also the immense dedication and generosity of our donors and partners, who play a pivotal role in every endeavor we undertake.” The evening was not just an acknowledgment of progress but also a testament to the ripple effect of hope and opportunities created through collective efforts.
Moreover, the gala's significance extends beyond mere celebrations; it serves as the launch of Well Aware's December Giving Campaign. This campaign is open to the public, aiming to elevate funds to support clean water and sanitation programs in 2025, running through to the end of the year. Interested supporters can find various giving options through the organization’s website.
