SpartanNash's Commitment to Community
SpartanNash, a leading food solutions company, has proudly announced the success of an in-store fundraising campaign that raised an impressive
$265,000 for
Special Olympics across nine states. This initiative, part of their annual commitment to community engagement, saw contributions from store guests, Associates, and the SpartanNash Foundation. These funds are aimed at supporting year-round athletic programs for thousands of athletes who participate in inclusive sports environments.
From March 19 to April 14, SpartanNash invited guests at participating locations to add an additional
$1, $5, or $10 to their purchases, making it easy for anyone to contribute. Donations were also accepted online, enhancing accessibility for community members who wished to support the cause. This year’s fundraiser not only collected a significant amount of money but also bolstered local programming, training, and competition fees for Special Olympics athletes in states including Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
Adrienne Chance, the Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer at SpartanNash, emphasized the firm's commitment to empowering communities.
"At SpartanNash, we are deeply committed to the power of community and to creating opportunities that enable everyone to thrive," Chance said. "Our partnership with Special Olympics demonstrates our dedication to wellness and the boundless potential of every athlete. We are honored to stand with our store guests and Associates in supporting this inspiring cause."
The impact of SpartanNash’s fundraising efforts over the years has been profound. Since the partnership with Special Olympics began over 41 years ago, the SpartanNash Foundation has contributed more than
$10.5 million and countless volunteer hours to support athletes with intellectual disabilities.
Tim Hileman, President and CEO of Special Olympics Michigan, expressed gratitude for the continuous support provided by SpartanNash. He noted that these donations are critical for promoting confidence and independence among athletes.
"Our partnership with SpartanNash continues to make a remarkable difference in the lives of our athletes. These donations help fund critical programs that promote confidence, independence, and community connection through sports. We’re incredibly grateful for the ongoing support that helps us change lives year-round," Hileman stated.
The success of this campaign reflects SpartanNash's broader commitment to its
People First initiatives, which aim to strengthen communities and foster purposeful partnerships. As a company with nearly
20,000 Associates, SpartanNash operates both wholesale and grocery retail segments, servicing a diverse clientele that includes independent grocers and military commissaries.
The funds raised in this latest initiative will directly impact local athletes and create opportunities for them to train and compete, thereby nurturing an inclusive sports environment where every individual can thrive. This commitment to community-focused initiatives positions SpartanNash not only as a leader in the food industry but also as a champion for athletes across the Midwest.
