Tragic Lawsuit Filed After Toddler Dies Due to Daycare Negligence

The family of Matthew Bonneau Junior, a two-and-a-half-year-old boy, is facing an unimaginable loss that has altered their lives forever. On April 15, 2025, while under the care of a daycare facility, Matthew tragically passed away. The family, heartbroken and seeking justice, has now filed a lawsuit alleging that the daycare's negligence led to the untimely death of their beloved son.

The lawsuit targets Building Kidz of Dublin and its various parent companies, including Building Kidz, Inc., Building Kidz Worldwide, LLC, and others. The family accuses these companies of having a history of severe misconduct, such as falsifying records, intimidating staff, and failing to provide adequate supervision to children. Disturbingly, the lawsuit points out that these claims aren't just accusations but are based on numerous investigations conducted by the California Department of Social Services regarding over ten complaints since March 2024.

Attorney J. Gary Gwilliam, representing the family, expressed the grave concerns that millions of families have regarding childcare facilities. He emphasized that parents trust these establishments to ensure their children's safety, yet, in this case, that trust was shattered. The court documents state that on the day of the incident, Matthew was supposed to take a nap alongside his twin sister, Mylah. However, he was left unattended for 90 minutes, despite his known allergies and medical conditions that required constant supervision.

Tragically, during the wake-up time, little Matthew was discovered unresponsive, with his face pressed against the plastic mat that he had been sleeping on. His family recounts how Mylah witnessed the horrifying scene and had to be removed from her brother's side. Mrs. Renee Saavedra DeMotta, the young boy’s grandmother, spoke movingly about Matthew's vibrant personality, describing him as a child full of energy, laughter, and unending curiosity. She stated, “His laughter could fill the room, his hugs could melt away any sadness, and his curiosity made every day an adventure. The sudden loss of his bright light was a moment that changed our family forever, splitting time into before and after.”
