Exploring the Essentials: Art and Humanity at Gakushuin's Free Event

Exploring the Essentials: Art and Humanity

On October 11, 2025, Gakushuin University will host a free seminar titled "What Are the Important Things?" This event is a part of the university's 150th-anniversary celebration and will delve into the role of art in understanding crucial human values amidst the overwhelming information we encounter today.

In an era where quick results often overshadow the importance of thoughtful reflection and collaboration, this seminar aims to remind us of the value of empathy and consideration for others. Art, which does not always offer a single answer, encourages us to see the world and humanity from diverse perspectives.

At this event, attendees will engage in discussions and workshops led by renowned artist, Hibino, fostering an environment where participants can explore the concept of what is truly important in our lives.

As we grapple with significant issues like war, climate change, and natural disasters, discerning fact from fiction in today’s information-rich landscape can be particularly challenging. This seminar prompts us to reflect on our own values by engaging with artistic expressions and ideas, potentially leading us to fresh viewpoints and thoughts.

Participants will have the opportunity to open themselves up to art, a medium that has the power to convey profound messages that may not be immediately visible. This collective exploration aims to address profound questions: What truly are the essential things in life? How can we, as a community, come together to support and understand one another?
