Supporting Children With Cancer Through the Smile Relay Project and Wig Donations

Smile Relay Project,” aimed at providing wigs for children battling cancer. This innovative project underscores the commitment of these companies to corporate social responsibility, aligning their initiatives with ESG and SDGs goals.

The project kicked off with contributions from 174 beauty salons operated by TBC Group and Tataya across the nation, offering complimentary haircuts for donations. Many participants graciously agreed to have their hair cut for this noble cause, resulting in a total of 295 donations. The collected hair was meticulously transformed into wigs by Svenson, which were then delivered to medical institutions catering to pediatric cancer patients.

Vital partnerships with medical professionals at Tohoku University Hospital, Kyushu University Hospital, Hiroshima University Hospital, and Miyagi Prefectural Children’s Hospital ensured that these wigs reached the children who needed them most, as a result of the tremendous support from kind-hearted customers.

This supportive endeavor aims to provide happiness and smiles through the power of beauty. The Smile Relay Project symbolizes a collaborative effort between three top-tier companies in the aesthetic and hair care industries, harnessing their strengths to create significant social value.

Background of the Project

The inception of this project arose from the partnerships formed between TBC Group, Tataya, and Svenson over time. Each company boasts a history of excellence in aesthetic skin care, hair, and wig services, recognized for their contributions to the beauty industry. The initiative goes beyond promoting ESG values within their businesses; it aspires to spearhead a sustainability transformation in the beauty sector at large.

Getting Involved in the Project

For hair donations to be effective, willing participants are invited to salons affiliated with TBC Group and Tataya, where their hair can be cut for free, provided it meets specific criteria, such as a minimum length of 25 cm and a damage level not exceeding level 2. This generous offer paves the way for many to get involved in making a positive impact on the lives of children facing medical challenges.

Crafting Wigs for Young Patients

The donated hair is skillfully crafted into medical wigs tailored specifically for children undergoing cancer treatment. The aim is not just to fulfill a basic need but to restore a sense of normalcy and confidence in their lives, enhancing their overall well-being during a challenging time.

Ensuring Delivery of Wigs

Once the wigs are completed, they are delivered to partner medical institutions to ensure that they reach the young patients in a timely manner. The collaborative efforts among the three companies showcase their dedication to making a difference in children’s lives, increasing awareness about pediatric cancer, and supporting crucial SDGs goals—specifically targets 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 4 (Quality Education), 10 (Reduced Inequality), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
