Freepoint Eco-Systems and Source One's Collaboration for Advanced Recycling
In a significant advancement for environmental sustainability, Freepoint Eco-Systems International Ltd and Source One GmbH have announced a long-term collaboration aimed at establishing several pretreatment facilities for the advanced recycling of plastic waste. This partnership seeks to enhance the infrastructure necessary for processing post-consumer waste (PCR), facilitating the growth of pyrolysis operations throughout Europe.
Strategic Infrastructure Development
As part of this initiative, Freepoint Eco-Systems aims to develop a network of state-of-the-art pretreatment facilities in key European markets. Source One will act as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor. These facilities will transform mixed plastic waste into high-quality feedstock suitable for both advanced recycling and mechanical recycling processes.
Source One has developed a unique, high-level pretreatment concept that has already been demonstrating commercial viability. This system is engineered to efficiently handle complex waste streams, including mixed plastic packaging and flexible films. It stands out not only for its effective material conversion but also for its reduced energy consumption and minimized environmental impact, setting benchmarks in quality, operational efficiency, and compliance with evolving regulatory standards.
A Step Toward Circular Economy
“This collaboration marks the beginning of a strategic partnership dedicated to valorizing plastic waste,” stated Jacco de Haas, the Commercial Director of Freepoint Eco-Systems Recycling Europe. “By merging our raw material strategy with Source One's pretreatment platform, we are laying the groundwork for an essential infrastructure that allows for competitive and commercially viable pyrolysis expansion.”
The cooperative agreement aligns with Freepoint Eco-Systems' broader ambition to emerge as a leading supplier of feedstock for advanced recycling across Europe. The outputs from these facilities will support the pyrolysis plants operated by Freepoint and bolster other recycling initiatives on the continent.
Kai Hoyer, founder and CEO of Source One GmbH, remarked, “The partnership with Freepoint Eco-Systems provides critical capacity necessary to turn the efficient use of plastic resources into reality across Europe. Together, we are advancing the circular economy by leveraging cutting-edge recycling technologies and accelerating the recovery and high-quality reuse of plastics.”
Meeting Regulatory Standards
This agreement establishes the foundation for infrastructure that adheres to pivotal European regulatory factors, including the Green Deal, the Action Plan for the Circular Economy, and the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which mandates increased use of recycled content in plastic packaging. Addressing a crucial bottleneck in the plastic value chain, the collaboration between Freepoint Eco-Systems and Source One aims to enhance material recovery and enable the responsible use of plastic resources across Europe.
