Angel Yeast Launches New 8,500 Ton Specialty Yeast Facility to Enhance Brewing Innovation

Angel Yeast Launches New 8,500 Ton Specialty Yeast Facility

Angel Yeast, a global leader in yeast and fermentation solutions, has officially begun trial production at its innovative specialty yeast facility located in Baiyang Biotechnology Park within the Yichang High-Tech Zone. This cutting-edge facility, which started material feeding on August 31, has a planned annual capacity of 8,500 tons and is set to enhance the company’s ability to meet the growing demand for high-value yeast-based ingredients, primarily targeted at craft brewing, winemaking, and bioenergy sectors.

With this new launch, Angel Yeast complements its entire supply chain, which includes research and development, pilot production, and large-scale manufacturing. This vertical integration is expected to bolster the bio-manufacturing value chain by ensuring a stable supply of high-quality yeast-derived ingredients.

Enhancing Quality and Production Efficiency

Qin Benguo, the Deputy Production Director for specialty yeast at Angel Yeast's Yichang unit, emphasized the stringent microbiological standards established at the facility, which ensure minimal contaminants during production. The air filtration systems allow only filtered air into the pressure-fed feed tanks, maintaining a positive pressure environment that preserves nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and other nutrients in a highly sterile storage setting.

Moreover, the manufacturing lines are fully automated, facilitating processes from feeding and fermentation to packaging and storage. This automation results in consistent product quality at a large scale.

Angel Yeast’s specialty yeast aim to serve high-value segments beyond the typical bread yeast market, including craft beer, wine, and other alcoholic beverages, as well as ethanol fuel and biomass energy. By producing stable, premium raw materials at scale, the new facility is poised to help brewers and bioenergy producers improve their yield, stabilize their processes, and enhance flavor consistency—elements critical for accelerating product innovation and market expansion.

Launching a Pilot Testing Platform

In addition to the new production line, Angel Yeast has launched a functional microorganism pilot testing platform designed specifically for brewing. This platform serves as a bridge between laboratory discoveries and industrial validation. It simulates real brewery environments, allowing for more consistent trial results despite challenges faced during live operations, such as varying operator practices and timing inaccuracies. Equipped with real-time monitoring, the platform tracks microbial dynamics and the evolution of aromatic compounds, enabling precise quality assessments, faster R&D cycles, and optimized technical schematics for partners.

Luo Xinjie, the Technical Support Director for Brewing within Angel Yeast's Feed and Fermentation Unit, noted, “Equipped with real-time monitoring systems, the platform allows us to track microbial dynamics and the development of aromatic compounds in a controlled, factory-like environment. This provides us with unprecedented precision in product quality evaluation, refining R&D directions, and optimizing technical schemes for our partners.”

Angel Yeast's solutions have already proven effective in enhancing yield stability, fermentation control, and aroma precision within the baijiu sector. The pilot platform significantly shortens the cycle between research and industrial application, allowing breweries quicker access to customized, validated solutions, thus reducing time to market while improving operational efficiency.

A Powerful Driver for Brewing Innovation

Together, the 8,500-ton specialty yeast production facility and the functional microorganism pilot testing platform represent a powerful engine for global bio-manufacturing and brewing innovation. As Angel Yeast expands its capabilities—from automated specialty yeast production to translational pilot testing—the company is positioned to provide increasingly functional and sustainable solutions while driving a new wave of bio-based products worldwide. This commitment to innovation and quality is set to invigorate the brewing and bio-manufacturing landscape globally.
