Launch of 'fire limit 120': Enhancing Fire Safety Awareness in Japan

Launch Event Report of 'fire limit 120'

On September 1, marking the Disaster Prevention Day, Macan Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Noriharu Nakamura) officially launched the 'fire limit 120' project. This was followed by a launch event held on August 26, 2025, dedicated to the new initiative.

The event featured a vibrant atmosphere, highlighted by guests wearing attire that matched the red color of 'FIRE OUT', Japan's only fire extinguisher spray that has passed all five fire extinguishing performance tests (as of June 2025). The guests included popular comedian Kazlaser and disaster prevention specialist Masaki Ikuta.

Act of Courage: Kazlaser Takes on Fire Prevention

Kazlaser kicked off the session with a profound statement about the unpredictable nature of fires, emphasizing the importance of constant preparedness. "Fires can happen anytime, and we cannot always be ready. It’s critical to stay prepared," he articulated.

In a lively interaction with Masaki Ikuta, who served in the Tokyo Fire Department as a special rescue team member, they engaged in a discussion on proactive disaster prevention. Ikuta humorously referenced Kazlaser’s recent marriage announcement, saying, "I won’t extinguish the fire of love," to which Kazlaser responded with laughter, saying, "That's fine by me!"

As the session progressed, Ikuta utilized a fire prevention checklist to elaborate on the significance of initial fire suppression. Kazlaser chimed in, highlighting that even if people have fire safety equipment, they often don’t know their locations. He demonstrated the 'FIRE OUT' spray by successfully extinguishing a fire in just 14 seconds. “This is simpler and more manageable than a traditional fire extinguisher. Just being aware of this spray can be a form of preparedness, especially in panic-inducing scenarios,” he noted, visibly impressed by its effectiveness.

About 'fire limit 120' Project

Japan is among the countries most prone to natural disasters. The awareness of earthquake prevention has increased over the years, leading households to prepare emergency kits and stockpile supplies. However, with fire incidents often caused by human actions, many people tend to view fire incidents as something detached from their lives. According to the Fire Department's report, a significant number of disaster-related fatalities are caused by fires. Projections suggest that in the case of a major earthquake in the capital, about 70% of fatalities would be due to fires.

As buildings become more earthquake-resistant, the risk posed by fires has emerged as one of the most critical life-threatening hazards. Additionally, fires are risks that exist not only during disasters but also in our daily lives. In the year 2024, a staggering 37,036 fire incidents occurred nationwide, averaging about 101 fires daily. These events can stem from everyday items such as mobile battery fires, mishaps during charging of small appliances, or misuses of electronic devices.

This highlights how crucial it is for us to adopt not only special precautions but also to integrate fire safety into our daily routines. The 'fire limit 120' project addresses not just the prevention of fire but also the preparation and actions required when a fire does occur, promoting a new awareness of disaster response.
