CIIE 2025: A Gateway to Global Opportunities for Innovation and Inclusion

CIIE 2025: Opening Doors to Global Possibilities

The eighth edition of the China International Import Expo (CIIE), held from November 5 to 10, 2025, at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, showcased its reputation as a pivotal platform for global trade and economic collaboration. The venue, affectionately dubbed the "four-leafed clover," once again transformed into a bustling hub for innovation and inclusion.

A Platform for Global Engagement

This year, CIIE featured six honored guest nations: Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, Colombia, Nigeria, Thailand, and Georgia. These representatives from four continents underscored a collective commitment to sustainable and open growth in international markets. With over 4,108 exhibitors from more than 155 nations and regions across a sprawling exhibition area of 430,000 square meters, the event thrived on diversity and collaboration.

The Expo specifically highlighted contributions from 17 African countries, showcasing unique products such as Nigerian soybeans, Beninese pineapples, and Burundian coffee, effectively promoting the richness and quality of goods from the continent.

Innovation and Inclusivity at the Forefront

For the first time, CIIE introduced new exhibition sections aimed at enhancing innovation and encouraging broader participation. One of these new zones showcased products from Asian and African nations, granting preferential access and duty-free import policies for smaller exporters. This initiative was particularly beneficial, enabling smaller producers to enter the world's second-largest consumer market more seamlessly.

Insights and Global Cooperation

Running parallel to the trade exhibition was the Hongqiao International Economic Forum (HQF), which convened global thought leaders focused on strengthening cooperation and sharing insights on openness. The forum released the World Openness Report 2025 and the latest World Openness Index, offering critical analysis of global economic openness and China's high-level involvement in international trade. A notable feature this year was the contribution from a Nobel Laureate in Economics, who led the authoring of a pivotal chapter in the report.

The discussions were framed under the theme “Opening Up for New Opportunities, Collaborating for a Shared Future,” addressing vital topics such as revitalizing multilateral cooperation, digital innovation, green development, and fostering a more open global economy.

A Successful Conclusion

As CIIE 2025 came to a close, it reaffirmed its global mission of connecting markets, stimulating innovations, and promoting inclusive growth. Exhibitors and visitors from around the world came together in Shanghai to translate their opportunities into reality. This year's Expo not only amplified voices from diverse economies but also established a path forward for future collaborations.
