Celebrating Workplace Mental Health Care: Six Organizations Pioneered in the First Decade

In a recent event marking its tenth anniversary, Spring Health, a company dedicated to workplace mental health enhanced by AI technology, proudly honored six organizations with its inaugural Pioneer Award. These organizations—Adobe, BASF, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, Johnson & Johnson, Koch, and Nielsen—have showcased exemplary leadership in transforming the landscape of mental health benefits for employees.

This award ceremony celebrated the pivotal role these companies played during a period when the concept of workplace mental health care was still emerging and often untested. By choosing to invest in innovative methods of supporting their employees, the honorees made substantial strides in addressing mental health needs in their organizations. The commitment of these HR and benefits leaders has resulted in broader access to mental health services, improved outcomes for complex cases, and evidence of effective scaling across diverse global workforces.

Collectively, these six award recipients represent over 536,000 individuals covered under their plans, contributing to a significant impact on mental health care access with more than 90,000 lifetime appointments facilitated via Spring Health. Leaders from these organizations shared insights into their strategies.

David Cheung, Senior Benefits Vendor Manager at Koch, emphasized how the recognition reinforces their investment in technology and accessible care. He remarked, "Our partnership with Spring Health has facilitated timely access to high-quality mental health resources tailored to our members' needs. We're aware that quick access and the right therapeutic fit contribute fundamentally to improved outcomes."

Cincinnati Children's Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, Peter Adebi, highlighted the integrated care model co-developed with Spring Health. He said, "The alignment we've achieved shines a light on the possibilities that emerge when innovation and compassion come together to support employee well-being. The Pioneer Award is a testament to what we have accomplished collaboratively."

Kelly Hallac, Senior Director of Benefits & Wellbeing at Nielsen, underscored the foundational ethos of prioritizing employee well-being. Through their ongoing partnership with Spring Health, they have observed significant clinical improvements in depression and anxiety. Hallac expressed pride in their achievements, noting the high levels of engagement and the meaningful support offered to both the global workforce and their families.

The contributors to this initiative represent a collective refusal to accept the status quo concerning mental health care in the workplace. Gijo Mathew, Chief Product Officer at Spring Health, remarked, "The collaboration was centered around identifying the gaps in care, like long waitlists and the challenges of finding suitable providers, and devising effective solutions. Our AI-driven approach has continuously focused on creating rapid access to appropriate care and demonstrating its success."

Founded in 2016 by April Koh and Adam Chekroud, Spring Health has relentlessly pursued the mission of connecting individuals with customized mental health care while measuring outcomes. A 2025 study published in the OJPHI covering 52,929 members revealed that an impressive 92% of those surveyed experienced reliable improvement or complete recovery from mental health challenges. The Validation Institute corroborated Spring Health's claims of cost savings, highlighting the company's unique positioning as the first mental health solution that guarantees a positive ROI.

The Pioneer Award acknowledges the earlier adopters who have not only contributed to the evolution of mental health care but have also shaped the very fabric of Spring Health’s mission. As Spring Health embarks on its second decade, it remains committed to collaborating with its clients to ensure that mental health care remains personalized, continuous, and high-impact, adapting to the changing dynamics of individuals' lives.

Spring Health stands at the forefront of global mental health care innovation, with over 170 million individuals worldwide having access to its services through major employers and health plans, including Highmark, Target, The Coca-Cola Company, BlackRock, Microsoft, Pfizer, and Wawa. The recognition of these six pioneering organizations underscores an era of positive transformation in workplace mental health, driving forward the narrative that mental well-being is a fundamental component of a healthy workforce.
