Gore Announces Launch of Pivotal Study for New Stent Graft Technology Targeting Aortoiliac Aneurysms

Gore's New Frontier in Aneurysm Treatment

W. L. Gore & Associates, a leader in medical technology, recently announced a significant advancement in vascular surgery: the first patient enrollment in their IBE Plus Pivotal Study. This clinical trial aims to evaluate the GORE® EXCLUDER® IBE Plus Stent Graft's efficacy in treating aortoiliac and common iliac artery aneurysms.

The urgency of this research is underscored by alarming statistics: approximately 200,000 individuals are diagnosed with an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) in the United States each year, with around 28% of these cases extending into the iliac arteries. Despite advancements in medical technology, current iliac branch devices often fall short in addressing the anatomical diversity found in patients, necessitating innovative solutions.

Understanding the IBE Plus Clinical Trial

The IBE Plus Clinical Trial is designed as a prospective, nonrandomized, multicenter interventional study. It will enroll patients across approximately 30 sites in the United States, with rigorous follow-up scheduled for up to five years to gather comprehensive data on the stent graft's efficacy and safety.

According to Dr. Shahab Toursavadkohi, the National Principal Investigator from the University of Maryland, the commencement of this pivotal study represents a crucial step forward in the treatment of aneurysmal disease affecting the aortoiliac region. He emphasized that maintaining blood flow to the internal iliac artery is a critical consideration in treatment strategies, making this study a significant milestone in enhancing patient care options.

Dr. Aleem Mirza, another principal investigator at Orlando Regional Healthcare System, remarked on the unique challenges presented by aortoiliac aneurysms. He highlighted the importance of continued clinical research in this area, noting that their involvement in the study would contribute substantially to the body of clinical evidence.

Pioneering Innovations at Gore

Jill Paine, Product and Innovation Leader at Gore, stated the company’s commitment to advancing endovascular treatment options. She pointed out that the foundation of Gore’s innovation lies in the integration of science, engineering, and clinical evidence. The IBE Plus Pivotal Study exemplifies this dedication, aiming to address critical unmet needs in patient care related to iliac branch repairs.

With over 25 years of experience at the forefront of aortic treatment innovation, Gore has established itself as a pioneer in the development of minimally invasive treatments, fundamentally changing care approaches for patients with complex aortic disease. The IBE Plus Clinical Trial further extends this legacy, focusing on next-generation solutions for iliac arteries that could benefit a broader range of patients.
