Hitachi Solutions Introduces High-Speed Scanning Service

Hitachi Solutions, based in Shinagawa, Tokyo, is launching a new service designed to enhance cargo handling efficiency. Starting April 7, 2023, the company will offer a smartphone application capable of simultaneously scanning multiple barcodes and QR codes. This innovative service, known as "High-Speed Multi-Code Scanning Service," can read up to 480 codes in just one minute, which will greatly aid in the management and improvement of logistics operations.

With the recent amendments to the Logistics Efficiency Act effective from April 1, companies involved in manufacturing and distribution that handle a significant volume of shipments will now have to comply with specific reporting requirements to monitor their logistics operations. This includes understanding and improving operational efficiency continuously. Hitachi’s new service facilitates this need by allowing transport and warehouse businesses handling cargo from client companies to swiftly collect data during loading and unloading processes without the need for specialized scanner devices.

1. Efficient Data Recording: The app efficiently records vital data such as shipping times, inspection results, and quantities along the workflow. This precise documentation of the time taken from inspection to receipt can streamline operations and inform strategies to reduce loading times.

2. User-friendly Integration: Companies can implement this service with their existing smartphones using the application, making it accessible even from just one device initially. This allows businesses to pilot the service at specific sites or for specific operations before gradually expanding its usage.

3. Advanced Scanning Technology: Utilizing Scandit AG's MatrixScan technology, this application enables simultaneous scanning of multiple barcodes or QR codes. The remarkable speed of 480 scans per minute not only enhances efficiency in inspection and loading but also assists in minimizing human errors in the scanning process.

To combat this, Hitachi Solutions entered into a licensing agreement with Scandit AG in 2020, launching the barcode-based solutions that have been effectively implemented in various logistics tasks, from product inspections to inventory management, ultimately leading to enhanced operational efficiency.

Moreover, the service has also been integrated into Hitachi High-Technologies' temperature management service, MiWAKERU®, which has garnered significant acclaim for its QR code capabilities in facilitating temperature monitoring of agricultural exports, even winning a special award from the 54th Japan Industrial Technology Awards.
