Celebrating Women's Voices: A Special Event on International Women’s Day
On March 8, 2025, a significant event took place at the
Ethical&SEA Dogwood Plaza location in Setagaya, Tokyo, dedicated to celebrating International Women's Day. The event featured accomplished guests such as model
Reiko Takagaki, brand producer
Mai Takagi of innerwear brand
ayame, and
Momoko Fujii, the representative of
sign, Inc. Together, these working mothers engaged in a heartfelt discussion about the challenges faced by women today, particularly regarding work-life balance and health.
International Women's Day: An Overview
International Women's Day (IWD) occurs annually on March 8 and is recognized by the United Nations as a day to spotlight women's health and rights. It is lovingly referred to as 'Mimosa Day' in some cultures, with the yellow mimosa flower serving as a symbol of the day.
This year marks a significant milestone as it marks the 50th anniversary of IWD's proposal by the UN in 1975, as well as the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action during the Fourth World Conference on Women.
However, challenges remain as demonstrated in the
Sustainable Development Report 2024, which highlights significant issues in achieving gender equality in Japan. While Japan climbed to 118th out of 146 countries in the
Global Gender Gap Report 2024 published by the World Economic Forum, there remains a long road ahead.
Event Highlights
The event served as a platform to acknowledge the contributions of women, particularly as three extraordinary mothers shared their insights on balancing work and parenting. The discussion was enriched by personal experiences and stories from their lives.
