Transforming Education in Morocco: The DigiSchool Initiative
Huawei has recently celebrated the successful completion of the DigiSchool 2024 project in Morocco, marking a significant milestone in advancing digital education in the region. Launched in February 2024, the initiative aims to prepare new generations for the demands of an increasingly interconnected world. It is part of Morocco's educational reform roadmap for the years 2022-2026, demonstrating a robust public-private partnership between the Moroccan Ministry of Education and Huawei Morocco.
A Step Towards Digital Inclusion
Under the framework of Huawei's global TECH4ALL initiative, this project emphasizes the importance of enhancing digital skills and solidifying public-private partnerships as a crucial lever for building a resilient digital ecosystem. As Huawei Morocco’s Managing Director, David Li, stated, "With this strategic partnership, Huawei is committed to continuing its investment in training and innovation to support Morocco's ambition for quality and inclusive digital education."
The DigiSchool project focuses on developing digital competencies by offering students and teachers training in various technologies, including artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and web and app development. Participants gain practical experience in robotics and coding, learning to solve technical puzzles and enhancing their digital literacy through interactive games designed to inspire creativity and initiative.
Phased Approach to Implementation
The DigiSchool program was structured in four phases. In the first phase, 265 high school teachers received training in ICT skills across 12 regions of Morocco. The second phase provided ongoing support, allowing these trained teachers to apply their skills in classrooms with 2,650 students. The third phase consisted of 12 regional hackathons held between May and November, challenging 714 students to develop ICT solutions to address specific challenges.
The final phase, conducted in December, involved technological bootcamps in Fez, Marrakech, and Agadir, organized in collaboration with regional educational academies. Here, 180 students and 60 teachers came together to refine their ICT skills gained earlier in the year. Teams had the opportunity to receive personalized support to improve their hackathon projects and present their solutions to a jury, with the best submissions awarded prizes.
In December, the project concluded with an evaluation tour in Agadir attended by notable dignitaries, including the Minister of Education, Mohamed Saad Berrada, and Chen Xiaolei, Huawei Morocco's Vice President. During this tour, students showcased their newly acquired skills by presenting the solutions they developed.
A Vision for the Future
The success of the DigiSchool 2024 program reflects the Moroccan government's ongoing commitment to digitalization, inclusivity, and equality in national education. It positions Morocco as a regional leader in utilizing technology as a vector for equality and progress—a vision shared by Huawei.
As part of its global TECH4ALL initiatives, Huawei is also implementing DigiSchool projects in several countries, including Kenya, Senegal, South Africa, Chile, and China, to enhance internet connectivity for remote schools and improve the digital skills of both students and teachers.
In summary, the DigiSchool project not only empowers students and educators in Morocco but also underscores Huawei's commitment to ensuring that technology serves as a means of inclusion and sustainable growth in the digital era.
