Celebrating Achievement: CSU Global Commencement with Emmy Award Winners Inspires Graduates

An Inspiring Celebration of Achievements at CSU Global's Commencement

The Colorado State University Global (CSU Global) recently hosted its Spring 2026 commencement ceremony, where over 2,100 undergraduate and graduate students celebrated their educational achievements. This significant event took place at the National Western Center in Denver, Colorado, and was streamed live for those unable to attend in person.

The highlight of the ceremony was the keynote speech delivered by Kristin Thorne, an esteemed five-time Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter. Known for her dynamic journalism and investigative prowess, Thorne shared insights from her extensive career, which includes notable roles at ABC and CBS in New York. Additionally, she serves as an adjunct assistant professor at Hofstra University, imparting her knowledge in advanced investigative journalism to the next generation.

Another remarkable speaker during the event was Javier Ibarra, an Emmy Award-winning producer and a proud CSU Global graduate, who completed his Master's in Organizational Leadership. Ibarra moved the audience by recounting his journey from a challenging childhood in west Denver to achieving professional success. He emphasized the transformative power of education and its role in helping students realize their potential. Ibarra's dedication to education is now reflected in his work with Denver Public Schools, where he aims to encourage other young individuals to seek their own pathways to success.

Ibarra expressed his heartfelt sentiments about his time at CSU Global, stating, "CSU Global was built for people like me, working professionals trying to balance careers, responsibilities, and big goals at the same time. I was working full-time and needed a program that understood that life doesn't pause just because you decide to go back to school." He continued to highlight how earning his master's degree honed his leadership skills and reinforced his belief that true leadership is about serving others and fostering community growth.

The ceremony also recognized the diverse backgrounds of the graduates, many of whom are returning to education as adults, first-generation students, or military service members seeking new career opportunities. CSU Global emphasized that the journey of each graduate is not solely defined by academic achievements but by the resilience and commitment shown throughout their personal and professional lives.

Dr. Audra Spicer, Interim President and CEO of CSU Global, expressed her pride in the graduates. "It has been an honor to serve our graduates on their academic journey. Their experience has been defined by persistence while mastering practical skills, tools, and knowledge to excel in their fields and make a meaningful impact on their communities," she remarked.

This graduating class represents a significant step not just in their individual lives, but in the ongoing journey of educational empowerment within their families and communities. The in-person ceremony, notable for being the first graduation held at the newly opened Livestock Center, was a triumph of community spirit and shared ambition.
