SANY Group's Rural Revitalization Project Sets New Standards for Sustainable Development in 2024
SANY Group's Daotong Village Rural Revitalization Project: A Model for Sustainable Development
In a commendable achievement, the Daotong Village rural revitalization project spearheaded by SANY Group has been honored as the best practice case for 2024 by the China Association of Public Companies. Initiated in 2019, the project plays a pivotal role in advancing rural revitalization in China while aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The initiative integrates smart elderly care, green infrastructure, and organic agriculture, establishing a replicable model for global rural development.
Smart Elderly Care: A Comprehensive System for Seniors
With approximately 21% of Daotong's population being elderly, the project has focused on creating a sustainable and tailored care system for seniors. This initiative combines the expertise of social workers, professional caregivers, and cutting-edge health technology, significantly enhancing their quality of life. The newly established health center not only functions as a health management hub but also offers daycare services and fosters cultural engagement, accommodating around 12,500 visits annually.
The project has developed 631 digital health profiles, allowing personalized healthcare for each resident. Collaboratively with both public and private sectors, modifications have been made to 17 low-income homes to ensure the safety of their elderly occupants with advanced emergency response technologies. To enhance sustainability and enable replication elsewhere, a standardized operational manual has been created.
Green Infrastructure: Driving Sustainable Rural Progress
Improving Daotong’s infrastructure was paramount for the project's success. Key enhancements included refurbishing the potable water system and restoring the Longtang Lake ecosystem, thereby aligning with WHO water quality standards. Furthermore, 530 solar-powered streetlights have been installed, leading to a significant reduction of 42 tons in annual carbon emissions while illuminating essential roads in the village.
The innovative micro-fund initiative has bolstered community governance, financing eight public space improvements through a model of co-creation, co-management, and co-sharing among residents. This revitalization also led to the conversion of 158 acres of abandoned farmland into chemical-free agricultural land, generating 64 jobs and providing over 40 impoverished families with a stable income.
