Omron's Strategic Acquisition of iCARE

In a significant move towards enhancing its corporate health initiatives, Omron Corporation, headquartered in Kyoto, Japan, has finalized a deal to acquire 100% of iCARE's shares, a company based in Shinagawa, Tokyo. This acquisition aims to establish a robust corporate health business and accelerate the expansion of healthcare data solution services, aligning with Omron's long-term vision, SF2030, which focuses on the extension of healthy life spans.

Background and Purpose of the Acquisition

Many companies in Japan face challenges due to an aging workforce and a critical shortage of labor, resulting in a pressing need to improve employee health. This necessity has a direct impact on enhancing overall productivity and the sustainability of health insurance finances within these firms. As a result, there has been a growing interest in strategic health management from a managerial perspective.

In July 2024, Omron entered into a capital and business alliance with iCARE to create solutions focused on health management using data. By fully acquiring iCARE, Omron will gain access to valuable employee health data, insights into industrial health, and a network of human resources, thereby accelerating its corporate health business initiatives.

Through the complete acquisition of iCARE, Omron plans to expedite the growth of iCARE's revenue and profitability while simultaneously utilizing both companies' expertise to accelerate the development of new services. The target for launching these new health services is by the fiscal year 2026. Starting in November, Omron plans to conduct proof-of-concept experiments related to data analysis for this initiative.

Moreover, Omron aims to expand its focus from company-wide health issues to individual employee health concerns. This strategic shift will enable timely awareness of employee health conditions, enhancing mental and physical well-being, thus creating a supportive work environment that maximizes employee potential.

Collaboration with JMDC, a group company based in Tokyo, will also be intensified. Leveraging JMDC's analytical capabilities in the health insurance domain will position Omron to explore new business territories and reinforce its commitment to comprehensive health solutions.
