Japan's Carrier Launches New Inverter-Driven Chillers
Japan's Carrier Corporation, headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, has officially begun accepting orders for its innovative inverter-driven water-cooled chillers and heat recovery water-cooled chillers. Known for leading the market with its Universal Smart X (USX)® series of modular chillers, the company has incorporated advanced technologies into these new products, which include the inclusion of an R32 refrigerant-compatible inverter and a DC triple rotary compressor. These features are designed to ensure a lightweight and compact design, significantly enhancing installation efficiency.
As a subsidiary of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), which leads the world in providing intelligent solutions addressing climate change and energy issues, Japan's Carrier recognizes the increasing demand for energy-saving performance in thermal source equipment that constitutes a significant portion of facility-wide energy consumption. Furthermore, the pressing issues of labor shortages in installation and service demand automation and efficiency, making the development of responsive solutions urgent. In light of these circumstances, Japan's Carrier is focused on enhancing its product offerings across various dimensions, including environmental consideration, safety design, large-volume capacity, serviceability, risk diversification, and overall performance enhancements to effectively tackle customer challenges.
The new chillers boast several impressive features that set them apart in the current market:
1.
Improved Installation Efficiency through Lightweight Design: The new products are equipped with an inverter and DC triple rotary compressor compatible with R32 refrigerant, akin to the award-winning USX FIT modular chiller that secured the top award at the 2025 Demand Side Management Awards. The chillers rank among the lightest in their class, significantly reducing the required installation footprint, making transportation via elevators much easier, and vastly improving overall installation efficiency.
2.
Energy Efficiency Coupled with Compactness: By utilizing the triple rotary compressor, these chillers achieve both enhanced energy efficiency and a capacity increase of up to 50HP. They cover a broad range of capacities, from a single module (30HP) to up to 16 modules connected (800HP), making them versatile enough for numerous applications. They are perfect for replacing old chilling units or for renewing absorption chillers and turbo chillers.
3.
Reduced Environmental Impact: The adoption of the low Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerant R32 and adherence to guidelines for mildly flammable refrigerants (GL-17) ensure enhanced safety and peace of mind for customers. Additionally, the exterior without paint significantly reduces the usage of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
4.
Inbuilt Harmonic Suppression: High harmonic filtering usually requires separate installation, but the newly designed chillers come standard with PWM converters to suppress harmonics, eliminating the need for additional measures.
5.
Expanded Water Temperature Range with Stable, Accurate Control: The chillers now offer an extended chilled water setting range from 3°C to 30°C, suitable for a diverse range of applications including automotive, machinery, electronics, food, and pharmaceuticals. Thanks to the inverter-driven compressors, optimal water temperature settings are maintained to ensure stable and precise operations.
6.
Improved Risk Diversification and Serviceability: The chiller's refrigeration cycle is segmented to enhance risk diversification, allowing for modular disconnection and standalone compressor replacement in case of trouble.
7.
Remote Monitoring for Peace of Mind: By contracting with the
