BayPort Foundation Awards Scholarships

In a significant initiative to support education, the BayPort Foundation has recently announced the allocation of $100,000 in scholarships distributed amongst 36 deserving students from various educational backgrounds. This year marks a notable continuation of their commitment to empower learners in the surrounding local communities, as the foundation aims to foster educational growth and success.

The Legacy of Support

Since its establishment in 1961, the BayPort Credit Union has been dedicated to aiding member students in their educational pursuits. Over the years, they have successfully awarded over $1 million in scholarships, showcasing their long-standing commitment to community development through education. The BayPort Foundation, which serves as the philanthropic arm of the credit union, actively works to provide tuition assistance to students striving for academic excellence.

Scholarship Criteria and Selection Process

Scholarship applications undergo a thorough review process that evaluates various criteria. Applicants are assessed based on their financial need, academic performance, involvement in school and community activities, and the quality of a personal essay. To qualify, students must be pursuing degrees or certifications at accredited colleges, universities, trade, or vocational schools.

New Scholarships Introduced

This year, the BayPort Foundation proudly introduced two new scholarships: the Julie Heldreth Memorial Scholarship and the Wright Family Scholarship. Both of these scholarships are part of the BayPort Foundation Legacy Giving Program, which is dedicated to honoring individuals and families that share the foundation's philanthropic vision and commitment to supporting education in the community.

Recognizing the Talent

To honor the 2025 scholarship recipients, the BayPort Foundation has teamed up with local television networks WAVY-TV NBC and WVBT-FOX43. This partnership aims to bring visibility to the scholarship recipients through the BayPort Foundation Scholarship Salute, a program that will spotlight these students daily from June 23 to July 27. The series will be available for viewing on BayPort's YouTube channel, allowing the community to celebrate the achievements of these talented individuals.
