Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan Enhances Sustainability at 2026 World Triathlon
Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan, headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, is set to make significant contributions to sustainability during the
2026 World Triathlon & Para Triathlon Series in Yokohama, scheduled for May 16 and 17, 2026. As a
Silver Partner of the event, Coca-Cola aims to implement robust recycling initiatives to minimize waste resulting from the event.
The company will conduct a
bottle-to-bottle recycling program for used PET bottles collected from the venue, in addition to initiating a recycling process for paper cups used at the hydration stations. The bottle-to-bottle recycling aims to transform collected PET bottles back into drink containers through various recycling processes, emphasizing Coca-Cola’s commitment to reducing container waste.
Background on the Event
The
World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) draws elite athletes from around the globe to compete for valuable championship points, paving the way to Olympic participation. The Yokohama event is expected to attract approximately
160 top athletes and about
1,700 general participants. In conjunction with the main event, the
Yokohama Triathlon Festival (Hamatora Fes) will take place in Yamashita Park, enhancing the festival atmosphere and appealing to visitors. Last year, the event recorded an impressive attendance, drawing
up to 270,000 spectators over two days.
Coca-Cola’s involvement in this year’s event continues its trend of environmental stewardship established in previous years. This initiative will not only recycle approximately
1,700 PET bottles collected from both the competition area and the festival site but also integrate the recovery of paper cups, starting in 2025. Paper cups will be separated and recycled into products such as toilet paper and cardboard.
Commitment to Circular Economy
Coca-Cola is committed to advance its
container and recycling initiatives as a part of its sustainability goals. The company focuses on lightweight containers and the promotion of recycling, aiming to foster a circular economy within Japan. By implementing these recycling efforts during the WTCS, Coca-Cola strives to further contribute to resource recycling and minimize environmental impact.
