Emotional Wellness through Tears
In an innovative approach to mental health, the 'Tears Activity' or 'Ruikatsu' workshop is being introduced as a wellness initiative for nurses in Shiga and Aomori Prefectures. Spearheaded by renowned therapeutic crying specialist, Hidefumi Yoshida, this seminar titled "Relieving Stress through Tears: Integrating Ruikatsu into Daily Life" aims to provide nurses with emotional relief in their demanding professions.
The Need for Tears Activity
Nursing is recognized as one of the most stressful professions. Recent statistics from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare indicate that healthcare workers have one of the highest instances of mental health-related work-related injuries. Nurses, in particular, experience significant stress due to their responsibilities, often facing high-pressure situations, team dynamics, and challenging interactions with patients and families.
With the rise of stress management programs in workplaces, 'Tears Activity' emerges as a viable solution. This unique method focuses on intentionally crying to alleviate stress. Participants will learn to release their emotions and combat stress-related symptoms by engaged in brief sessions of crying, thus restoring mental equilibrium.
What is Tears Activity?
'Tears Activity' is designed to facilitate emotional healing by allowing individuals to express their feelings through tears intentionally. Studies have shown that crying can provide a sense of relief and help in reducing the levels of stress hormones in the body. The workshop promotes this practice, emphasizing that emotional tears, which stem from feelings of sadness or deep connection, are significant for mental health.
Workshop Details
The workshops will take place on:
- - June 13, 2026 at the Shiga Nursing Training Center, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
- - July 18, 2026 at the Link Station Hall Aomori, from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM.
Each session will provide participants the opportunity to engage in activities that encourage crying, with a range of techniques to find personal “crying triggers”. The activities include watching emotional videos, creating heartfelt letters, and personal reflections.
