Moldova Celebrates 25 Years of National Wine Day as a Global Wine Destination
Celebrating Moldova's Wine Legacy
Moldova's National Wine Day marks its 25th anniversary on October 3 and 4, 2026, under the inspiring theme "United by Wine." This significant celebration will transpire in Chișinău, highlighting the country's remarkable journey in the global wine industry.
A Unique National Tradition
Moldova stands out as one of the few nations globally to dedicate a national holiday exclusively to wine. Over the years, the National Wine Day has evolved into a major cultural and tourist attraction, drawing thousands of visitors. The event emphasizes the rich history and advancements in Moldova's viticulture, particularly as the nation increasingly gains recognition on the international wine stage.
A Celebration of Diversity and Quality
The anniversary this year promises fresh experiences with increased participation from wineries across Moldova. Attendees can look forward to discovering the diversity, authenticity, and exceptional quality of Moldovan wines. The event serves as a vital platform for promoting wine tourism as well as boosting Moldova's international profile.
Ștefan Iamandi, head of the National Office for Vine and Wine, commented, "The Moldovan wine sector has significantly evolved by merging deep-rooted traditions with modern innovations. This anniversary reflects our heritage and our goal of establishing Moldova as a competitive wine producer worldwide."
The Impact of the National Wine Brand
The national brand, "Wine of Moldova - Unexpectedly Great," epitomizes this transformation. This initiative has not only raised international awareness but also facilitated the expansion of Moldovan wines in global markets. Presently, Moldova exports wine to over 70 countries, with about 60% of its exports destined for Europe. The wine sector contributes around 3% to Moldova's GDP and represents close to 8% of total exports, underscoring its strategic importance for the national economy.
Expanding Global Presence
As part of its global outreach, Moldova will enhance its international presence in 2026 by participating in key industry events, including JFEX Japan, Daejeon Wine Expo in South Korea, Interwine China, and WBWE in the Netherlands. These platforms allow producers to showcase wines characterized by authenticity, terroir, and competitive quality.
