Japan Football Association Launches Futuristic Camp in California Inspired by BLUE LOCK

The Japan Football Association (JFA), in collaboration with SCO Group Inc., recently held its inaugural 'JFA × SCO GROUP FUTURE CAMP inspired by BLUE LOCK' at Great Park in Irvine, California from August 3 to 6, 2026. This initiative aimed to identify and nurture football talent among players of Japanese descent residing abroad, reflecting JFA's commitment to developing future stars.

The camp attracted 34 talented players, aged between 9 to 12 years, from diverse backgrounds, including those from the United States, Canada, Europe, and Australia. Participants engaged in a comprehensive training program that included skill evaluations, tactical drills, and practice matches overseen by experienced JFA coaches.

Kazuyuki Yukawa, General Secretary of the JFA, emphasized the camp's aim to identify young athletes with leadership potential who can navigate the increasingly global landscape of sports. The interactions among players fostered a collaborative spirit, allowing them to learn from each other and grow in their football skills over the short span of the camp.

Not only did the camp focus on the players' technical abilities, tactical knowledge, and mental resilience — qualities critical for the development age — but it also aimed to transcend cultural and geographical barriers. Participation was free for all selected participants, with the JFA covering selection, accommodation, and transport costs. Eligibility criteria included holding Japanese nationality, having at least one Japanese parent, or being expected to acquire Japanese nationality in the future — no matter where they currently reside.

Inspired by the popular soccer-themed anime BLUE LOCK, which has captivated audiences worldwide with over 65 million copies in circulation, the camp underscores the fusion of sports and culture. Themes of ambition, individuality, and self-discovery central to BLUE LOCK permeated the camp's programming, inspiring young players to pursue soccer excellence.

Tsuneyasu Miyamoto, JFA President, echoed the sentiment of collective growth, stating that the camp provided a vital platform for young athletes to experience diverse gameplay and insights, thus fostering a rich learning environment.

Beyond establishing connections among players, the JFA is focused on expanding its global scouting efforts. This initiative reflects a broader ambition to tap into talents of Japanese heritage that may have previously gone unnoticed, ensuring that both the players and Japanese football as a whole benefit from these discoveries.
