Honoring Congressional Leaders for Championing Worker Safety at ISEA's Annual Meeting

ISEA to Honor Bipartisan Congressional Leaders for Worker Safety

On November 19, 2025, the International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) will hold its Annual Meeting at the International Spy Museum in Washington, D.C., a pivotal event where it will honor Congressional leaders for their unwavering commitment to worker safety and protections. In a landscape where these essential safeguards face increasing challenges, the recognition of legislators who prioritize such ground-breaking initiatives is not just timely but necessary.

Honorees and Legislative Leadership Awards

This year's recipients of the Legislative Leadership Award include U.S. Representatives Summer Lee (D-PA-12) and Don Bacon (R-NE-2), along with U.S. Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ). These individuals have proven themselves as champions for worker safety, U.S. manufacturing, and the innovation of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Cam Mackey, President and CEO of ISEA, praised the honorees, stating, "These honorees represent a rare kind of leadership—one that cuts through partisanship and focuses squarely on the health and safety of American workers. Their advocacy is not about politics; it's about making sure every worker—from healthcare to construction—can come home safe at the end of the day."

Rep. Summer Lee: The Advocate for Safety

Rep. Summer Lee, hailing from a district that encompasses the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory in Pittsburgh, has consistently drawn attention to the critical issues affecting worker safety. Her efforts to safeguard NIOSH's research initiatives stand out, as she highlights the importance of ensuring every worker can return home healthy after their shift. Lee's advocacy emphasizes that any cuts or layoffs within safety programs directly threaten the well-being of American workers.

Rep. Don Bacon: A Veterans Perspective

Retired Air Force Brigadier General Don Bacon represents Nebraska and has built a commendable reputation for crossing party lines in the name of worker safety. His history of service gives him a unique perspective on the physical and emotional needs of first responders, manufacturers, and other frontline workers. Bacon's persistent advocacy has underscored the importance of utilizing reliable, certified PPE to ensure that every worker is equipped to face their duties safely and effectively.

Sen. Andy Kim: The Pragmatic Legislative Approach

Senator Andy Kim is noted for his practical and action-oriented approach to legislation. Recently, he spearheaded efforts to press Congress into maintaining federal funding for agencies like OSHA and NIOSH, recognizing their pivotal roles in safeguarding workplace environments and promoting advancements in PPE technologies. His proactive steps signify a thoughtful understanding of the complexities involved in workplace safety and innovation.

A Call to Action

The Legislative Leadership Award symbolizes more than recognition; it's an urgent reminder of the collective responsibility to uplift worker safety standards. The ceremony at the International Spy Museum will gather influential figures from multiple sectors, including industry leaders, policymakers, and safety advocates. The aim is to foster collaboration and address the immediate challenges facing workers today.

In Mackey's words, "PPE isn't just equipment—it's peace of mind for millions of workers and their families... These leaders understand that protecting lives is a shared responsibility, and they've put action behind their words."
