Kolmar Korea Opens New US Factory to Enhance K-Beauty and Create Tariff Safe Zone
Kolmar Korea Opens Its Second Manufacturing Facility in the US
On July 22, 2025, Kolmar Korea marked a significant milestone by inaugurating its second manufacturing plant in the United States, located in Scott Township, Pennsylvania. This facility spans 17,805 square meters and has an impressive annual production capacity of 120 million units, contributing to a combined production capability of 300 million units when paired with the existing plant. This strategic move aims to solidify K-Beauty's footprint in the largest cosmetics market globally and establish what the company calls a 'Tariff Safe Zone.'
At the opening ceremony on July 16, Kolmar Group's Vice Chairman, Yoon Sang Hyun, articulated the company's ambitions, stating, "The US is where Kolmar's journey began a century ago. This second factory is not merely a production site but the starting point for a new vision of collaboration and growth." He emphasized the goal of creating an innovation ecosystem involving diverse value chain partners to foster the largest cosmetics manufacturing hub in North America.
Alongside Yoon, the ceremony drew the participation of various stakeholders, including Pennsylvania State Representative Bridget Kosierowski and other state officials, with around 100 attendees present to celebrate this leap forward.
The new facility specializes in developing skincare and suncare products, both categories that have witnessed growing demand in the U.S. Moreover, Kolmar Korea has secured FDA certification for over-the-counter sunscreen manufacturing, enhancing its ability to tap into the burgeoning K-sunscreen trend within the United States market.
Leveraging its renowned 'MADE BY KOLMAR' manufacturing expertise, established in the Sejong Plant in Korea, the new facility seeks to maintain the same high standards. The design integrates specialized zones for manufacturing, filling, and packaging, supported by advanced AI-powered systems for quality monitoring and process optimization. Impressively, 80% of production is automated, ensuring efficiency and minimizing defect rates.
By building this facility, Kolmar Korea becomes the first Korean cosmetics company to establish a manufacturing plant directly in the US rather than through acquisition, marking a landmark achievement in K-Beauty’s globalization efforts. This initiative is also a proactive measure to mitigate tariff-related challenges, offering a local production option for both Korean and international brands aiming to expand in U.S. markets.
A spokesperson from Kolmar Korea stated, "We are prepared to support K-beauty brands looking to enter the US market without tariff concerns, as well as global customers who aim at the North American and European markets. Our collaboration ecosystem is positioned for rapid growth."
As Kolmar Korea strives to enhance its manufacturing capabilities in the US, the company remains committed to innovation and quality in the beauty industry, propelling K-Beauty to new horizons.
