LOFT Green Project 2025: Enhancing Sustainability Through Recycling Initiatives
In a significant move towards sustainability, LOFT Inc., headquartered in Shibuya, Tokyo, has announced the 2025 Recycling Program under its LOFT Green Project slogan: "Empowering Happiness in Life and Earth Through Goods." This initiative emphasizes recycling by incorporating stores as collection points and collaborating with numerous cosmetic brands. Since launching the "Cosmetic Container Collection Program" in October 2021, the program has successfully collected over 6,512 kg worth of waste by July 2025.
As part of the LOFT Green Project 2025, starting September 1, 2025, the program will expand its efforts by welcoming 13 new brands, bringing the total to 45 partners committed to this cause. The project will also introduce a new category for oral care products, including toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes. This expansion is set to enhance the program’s recognition and environmental impact as they continue collecting these materials across 179 locations in Japan.
In addition, LOFT will initiate a trial of the "R-LOOP" reuse system in its Ginza and Shibuya locations, designed to foster a circular economy by promoting the recycling of clothing and miscellaneous items. This initiative will work closely with pilot partner companies for efficient material recovery. With current collaborations now including a pilot program on recycling outdated pens and other stationery, the project continues to evolve.

Moreover, collected plastics will be reused to manufacture shopping baskets with a 5% recycled material composition.
Charitable Contributions through TerraCycle Points
Under the LOFT Green Project, collected containers will earn TerraCycle points that can be redeemed for donations to charities and schools. Last year, LOFT contributed to the "Trees for Gifts" project aimed at reforesting beautiful satoyama areas in Tokyo, further embedding their corporate social responsibility into their mission.
R-LOOP Reuse Trial
From September 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026, the R-LOOP program will allow customers to recycle a wide range of clothing and miscellaneous items. Participants can drop off various clothing types except for undergarments and contaminated goods. Miscellaneous items like shoes, bags, and fashion goods will also be accepted, with repurposed clothing processed by BioLogic Loop for sustainable recycling.
Engaging the Community Through Incentives
For the public's participation in recycling programs, LOFT plans to reward participants with scores on the LOFT app throughout the#### 1,000 store locations (excluding MoMA Design Store) during the engagement period. Customers can gain 300 points for participating in any recycling program during the campaign period.
Future Initiatives
Additional recycling efforts include the collection of used instax film from Fujifilm at designated LOFT stores starting from May 2025, further reinforcing LOFT's commitment to sustainable practices. The new initiatives mark a significant step toward enhancing the sustainability of consumer habits through responsible recycling efforts that engage brands, customers, and the environment.
As the LOFT Green Project progresses, it sets an inspiring example in the retail industry, promoting environmental consciousness and encouraging proactive participation among customers until the end of its journey in 2026. This project signifies a new era in retail where sustainability is at the forefront, making a tangible difference for our planet in the coming years.
