Enhance Your AI Skills at the 2025 SAS Hackathon

The 2025 SAS Hackathon has officially opened its doors for registration, running from now until August 31. This year marks the fifth annual event, promising an exceptional opportunity for data scientists, business analysts, students, and AI enthusiasts of all levels to sharpen their skills and showcase their talent.

AI continues to dominate the conversation in technology and business, yet many organizations find it challenging to harness its full potential. The SAS Hackathon aims to bridge this gap by encouraging participants to tackle significant societal and business challenges using advanced analytics and machine learning.

What to Expect at the Hackathon

The global SAS Hackathon offers a collaborative and competitive platform where participants can form teams and engage in a friendly rivalry to create innovative solutions. The actual competition will take place from September 15 to October 10, culminating in a judging panel of AI and analytics experts who will evaluate the projects. Industry-specific and category winners will be announced during the fall.

This year’s participating teams will utilize advanced tools such as SAS® Viya®, SAS’s cloud-native AI platform, and SAS Viya Workbench, a new environment designed for building robust AI models. For generating synthetic datasets, teams can also leverage SAS Data Maker. These tools equip participants with the latest technology to drive impactful AI solutions.

Industry-Specific Tracks

The SAS Hackathon offers various industry tracks where participants can specialize:
  • - Banking
  • - Energy & Telecom
  • - Healthcare & Life Sciences
  • - Insurance
  • - Public Sector
  • - Retail, Consumer Goods & Manufacturing

Moreover, a new individualized student track has been introduced, allowing students to register using their academic emails. This track incorporates an analytics simulation game called Cortex, developed in collaboration with HEC Montréal, targeting fundraising challenges. Participants will apply SAS software and predictive modeling techniques to maximize donor outreach while minimizing costs.

Networking and Career Development

The hackathon is not only about competitive spirit; it's also an excellent opportunity for participants to network with industry professionals and meet potential mentors. As teams collaborate, they’ll gain practical experience that enhances their portfolios and prepares them for future careers.

Past Success Stories

Previous editions of the SAS Hackathon have seen remarkable successes, such as Team Butterflies, which was crowned the grand champion of last year’s event. They developed an AI-based tool to combat misinformation, demonstrating the profound impact that participants can have on navigating today’s information landscape. The previous edition attracted a staggering 1,731 registrants from more than 70 countries and resulted in 145 approved teams, showcasing the global interest in AI and analytics.
