Celebrating Resilience: Stevie Wonder's We Are You Foundation Honors Young Stars

In a heartwarming event held on December 11, 2024, in Los Angeles, Stevie Wonder's We Are You Foundation took center stage to celebrate the achievements of young individuals overcoming significant challenges. The occasion was marked by the presentation of the annual Stevie Wonder Star Student Award to Arzum Ayse Inanoglu, a remarkable youth who recently faced complete vision loss. This award is a testament to the dedication and long-standing commitment of Wayfinder Family Services in supporting individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

The Stevie Wonder Star Student Award was launched in 2014 as a tribute to Wayfinder’s 60 years of service to children, youth, and adults with visual impairments. It also acknowledges the continued support from the legendary music icon Stevie Wonder, who has not only been a long-time supporter of the organization but also serves on its board of directors. Under Wayfinder’s care, over 21,000 individuals benefit from personalized support each year, including expanded services for children with multiple disabilities and those in foster care.

During the event, Aundrae Russell, CEO of the We Are You Foundation, had the honor of presenting the award to Arzum. Her incredible story of resilience and courage moved everyone present at the ceremony. Just after losing her sight, Arzum engaged in Wayfinder's Camp Bloomfield program, where she impressed both counselors and fellow campers alike with her strength and optimism. Russell praised her not only for her bravery but also noted her ability to uplift and appreciate those around her, which are qualities that embody the essence of a true Stevie Wonder Star Student.

“I admire Arzum not just for her bravery but also for her unique ability to make those around her feel valued and appreciated. Her sense of gratitude and empathy shines through in everything she does,” Russell expressed at the award ceremony.

Following the award presentation, Aundrae Russell made a generous donation to Wayfinder Family Services, expressing heartfelt gratitude to all families involved with the organization. “The efforts of parents in this room do not go unnoticed. Your dedication is the backbone of what we are striving to achieve,” said Russell. Jay Allen, president and CEO of Wayfinder Family Services, conveyed deep appreciation for the support from the We Are You Foundation, stating, “Thanks to their enduring support, we make a meaningful impact on countless deserving children and families.”

Wayfinder Family Services stands as a beacon of hope for individuals facing various challenges, providing expert support tailored to the needs of children, youth, adults, and families.
