Mars Partners with GoldenPeaks Capital
Mars, Incorporated has officially signed its inaugural contract focused on renewable energy acceleration in Europe, entering into a significant partnership with
GoldenPeaks Capital. This collaboration aims to enhance all aspects of Mars's value chain and emphasizes the company's commitment to achieving 100% renewable energy usage.
The agreement is designed not only to address Mars's direct operations but also to extend the supply of renewable electricity throughout its value chain. GoldenPeaks Capital is set to develop over
100 solar projects in
Poland, which will contribute more than
129 MWac—approximately 58% of the overall output from the main project. This substantial energy output is expected to provide clean energy sufficient to power around
100,000 homes annually, facilitating Poland's transition away from coal toward a low-carbon economy.
The Scope of the Agreement
This new contract marks a pivotal milestone, being regarded as the largest renewable energy agreement involving multiple buyers in the
Central and Eastern European region. The
100 solar projects are expected to become operational by
2027, generating around
222 GWh per year. Apart from meeting the energy needs of Mars, the agreement aims to support the broader goals of the European Union regarding climate action.
Additionally, Mars's partnership with Cargill, which has signed its agreement with GoldenPeaks Capital, enhances the scale of these solar parks. Working with Cargill supports Mars's renewable energy acceleration initiative, creating a win-win scenario for all stakeholders involved in the supply chain.
Mars's Vision for Renewable Energy
Kevin Rabinovitch, Mars's Global Vice President of Sustainability, expressed excitement over the progress in their Renewable Acceleration Program. He stated, “I am pleased to see the momentum we are gaining with our Renewable Acceleration program. Our collaborative work with Enel in North America laid the groundwork, and this next step in Europe solidifies our vision of making renewable energy the standard wherever Mars operates.
Having a primary supplier like Cargill join us to expedite cleaning energy across our shared supply chains underscores the necessity for global climate action. True effectiveness can only emerge through collective efforts.”
Adriano Agosti, founder and president of GoldenPeaks Capital, also praised Mars’s commitment, saying, “Mars, as a global enterprise, has transformed its global responsibilities into opportunities, accelerating the decarbonization process across its supply chain. GoldenPeaks Capital is proud to partner in this global mission.”
Strategic Goals and Future Directions
Mars’s
Renewable Acceleration Program aims to hasten the transition from fossil fuels to clean energy not only at its facilities but throughout its value chain. This encompasses integrating all its energy consumption into the renewable market. Following their alliance with Enel in North America earlier this month, this partnership with GoldenPeaks Capital showcases Mars's commitment to establishing a truly global approach to decarbonization.
Looking ahead, Mars is formulating new global agreements to further bolster its sustainability strategy, projecting a
10% reduction in its total carbon footprint by
2030. This program is integral to Mars’s strategy to achieve net zero emissions by
2050, which also includes combating deforestation, supporting climate-smart agriculture, enhancing transportation, and embedding sustainability throughout the organization.
