Experience Kabuki Theatre with Special Stay Plan at Mercure Tokyo Hibiya

A Unique Fusion of Kabuki and Contemporary Theatre

Mercure Tokyo Hibiya, located in the heart of Chiyoda, Tokyo, is set to launch a special stay plan starting May 29, which combines luxurious accommodation with tickets to the eagerly awaited Kabuki performance, "Touken Ranbu: Azuma Kagami Yuki no Midare," showing at the renowned Shinbashi Enbujou Theatre.

The Theatre Experience

Positioned in Japan's theatre district, Mercure Tokyo Hibiya embodies the essence of "stage art" in its design. The hotel presents a meticulously crafted experience for both Kabuki enthusiasts and newcomers alike, allowing guests to immerse themselves in a blend of tradition and modernity. This plan not only offers the excitement of watching a live performance but also promises a comfortable and stylish stay.

The seminal production, based on the popular online game "Touken Ranbu," marks an innovative transition into the world of Kabuki, showcasing the first-ever adaptation of its narrative for the traditional stage in 2023. Following the success of the initial performance, the sequel will bring back familiar faces like Matsuya Onoe while introducing fresh talent, spinning a new story set in the Kamakura period, around the legendary figures and historical events that shaped that era.

Matsuya Onoe, who plays the leading role and co-directs the production alongside Kikunojo Onoe, shared his thoughts during a press conference on May 28. He expressed his dedication to crafting an experience that surprises and delights both die-hard fans of Kabuki and those experiencing it for the first time. "I aim to ensure that our artistic touches resonate with our audience, reminding them of both the comforting familiarity and the innovative spectacle that Kabuki brings to life. This time, we're dedicated to showcasing the breadth and power embedded in the art form," he stated passionately.

About the Performance

The second installment of the "Touken Ranbu" saga will grace the stages of Tokyo, Fukuoka, and Kyoto in the summer of 2025. This production will feature iconic characters from the first installment, alongside new additions that continue to expand the narrative horizons of the series.

As the storyline intertwines with historical events, audiences will engage with characters like the late Shogun Minamoto no Sanetomo, his wife Princess Keiko, and influential Samurais, drawing spectators into the turmoil of the Kamakura period where emotions and historical fate clash.
