Costa Rica at the Fruit Logistica 2025
From February 5-7, 2025, a remarkable contingent of 18 companies representing Costa Rica participated in the annual Fruit Logistica, a global trade summit dedicated to the fruit and vegetable industry, held in the vibrant city of Berlin. This year, Costa Rica aimed not just to present its agricultural bounty but to strengthen its foothold in international markets, particularly among leading supermarket chains and crucial players in the agribusiness sector.
Under the auspices of the Costa Rican Trade Promotion Agency (PROCOMER), the exhibition featured an impressive assortment of locally grown products. Attendees could find staples like cassava, taro, ginger, fresh and green pineapples, and a variety of bananas, including organic and premium options. The diversity of offerings showcased the rich agricultural heritage and innovative farming practices of Costa Rican producers.
The Importance of Participation
Mario Saenz, Export Development Manager at PROCOMER, emphasized the significance of this event for Costa Rican exporters. He stated, "Participation in Fruit Logistica 2025 is crucial for our fresh produce exports. It allows us to strengthen existing customer relationships and explore new business opportunities for our exporters. By doing so, we continue to position our diverse product range in international markets, reinforcing the country’s role in global agricultural trade.”
According to PROCOMER's recent data released in December 2024, the agriculture and food sectors are vital contributors to Costa Rica’s export economy, holding the second (18%) and third (13%) positions in the fresh produce category, respectively. Notably, Costa Rica is recognized as the world’s leading exporter of pineapples and a significant supplier of cassava to the European Union, as indicated by data from Trade Map managed by the International Trade Centre (ITC).

Among the participants, many companies hailed from the Northern Huetar and Caribbean regions of Costa Rica, with four making their debut at this prestigious event. Some of the prominent exhibitors included:

Furthermore, Joshua Guerrero, Operations Manager of Tropifoods Costa Rica, noted, "This is our eleventh year at the Fruit Logistica, and it has been pivotal in establishing Tropifoods as a benchmark for ethnic products while expanding our presence in European markets.”

The future looks bright for Costa Rican agriculture as it forges ahead in harnessing new markets and establishing itself firmly in global trade networks.
