Understanding Unconscious Bias to Prevent Workplace Harassment

Free Seminar on Preventing Workplace Harassment: Navigating Unconscious Bias

The Japan Risk Communication Association (RCIJ), the only organization in Japan dedicated to managing risks in communication strategies, invites professionals in human resources, labor, and administration to its online seminar titled "Preventing the Good Boss from Becoming a Harassment Perpetrator: Overcoming Unconscious Bias in Communication" scheduled for October 22 from 16:00 to 17:00.

Background of the Seminar

In recent years, companies across Japan have implemented harassment training following the full enforcement of the power harassment prevention law. Despite these initiatives, the human resources departments face ongoing challenges due to difficulties in distinguishing between guidance and harassment, alongside concerns that individuals may claim no ill intent during disputes. These challenges indicate that labor-related issues remain significant threats to management.

RCIJ recognizes that a major underlying factor in these problems is the existence of unconscious biases that individuals may not even be aware of. Unintentional behaviors intended to be beneficial can actually harm others, negatively impacting workplace relationships, mental health, employee turnover rates, and, ultimately, the company’s reputation. This seminar aims to shed light on these psychological mechanisms, particularly focusing on unconscious bias, while providing strategies for improving organizational culture and preventing risks.

What You Will Gain From This Seminar

Participants in this seminar will gain insights into various psychological mechanisms that can lead to harassment and labor disputes. Attendees will learn to recognize unconscious biases among managers and employees, as well as techniques to address these biases effectively. The goal is to foster a substantial approach to improving organizational culture beyond simply reacting to issues. Additionally, the seminar will provide perspectives on the importance of communication from a management risk viewpoint.
