Historic Victory for the Sakura Japanese Choir at the Gospel Fest in New York City!

A Historic Triumph for the Sakura Japanese Choir

On May 10, 2025, the Sakura Japanese Choir, under the direction of TiA, made history by winning the choir division at the McDonald's Gospel Fest held in Times Square, New York City. This prestigious event, which has been running since 1983, is considered one of the largest gospel festivals in the United States and a revered stage for Grammy-winning artists. The triumph of a Japanese choir on such a renowned platform marks a groundbreaking milestone in the history of gospel music in Japan.

The Journey to New York

TiA, who debuted at the young age of 16 under Sony Music and received the New Artist Award at the Japanese Gold Disc Awards, first traveled to the U.S. in 2014. It was in a Harlem church that she encountered the soul-stirring spirit of authentic gospel music, which would inspire her future endeavors. In 2016, TiA led the Japanese unit “Onigiri Sisters” to victory at the same festival.

After returning to Japan and continuing her music career, TiA realized her dream of assembling a special choir to participate in the Gospel Fest with 100 Japanese members. This year, her dream materialized with a remarkable group of 86 talented singers on stage, showcasing the power of Japanese gospel music.

A Soul-Stirring Performance

The moment the choir took to the stage, they captivated the audience with a medley from TiA’s gospel album, “MIRACLE,” featuring the song “Ride On King Jesus ~ Total Praise.” The sheer joy and emotion radiated throughout the venue as they performed, leading to a thunderous standing ovation that resonated long after the last note.

As the results were announced, the excitement reached a fever pitch when the announcer declared, "Japan! Sakura Japanese Choir!" The ecstatic crowd erupted in cheers, illustrating the impact of their performance on a global stage.

TiA reflected on the achievement, saying, "This is a miracle that could not have been achieved by one person alone. Everyone's aspirations came together, allowing us to praise gospel music with the heart of the Japanese spirit. Thank you so much." The collective power and unity of their voices echoed the sentiment of celebration and pride.

Upcoming Celebrations

Following their monumental victory, a special concert to celebrate this accomplishment is already in high demand. The June concert at Roppongi Klaps is sold out, and a victory celebration concert will take place on October 10 at the TOKYO FM HALL. Fans can look forward to experiencing their heartfelt, soul-lifting performances in Japan, echoing the applause received in America.

Stay updated with TiA’s latest information through her Instagram, where she will be sharing details about their concerts and upcoming projects.
